Tesla cars are banned [for 2 months] from Chinese town over spying fear

He’s going to end up with egg on his face again. June is looking like a record month for Tesla in China.

He's just going to whip out the gasoline and hybrid sales numbers again and say it proves BYD is the clear choice for Chinese consumers than Tesla...even though Tesla doesn't even sell those types of cars.

Meanwhile BYD's 100% battery EV sales are lucky when any model cracks the 10K mark in sales.

Tesla AI a bit too scary for the Chinese leadership.

Tesla cars have been banned from entering Beidaihe, a Chinese resort town, for two months over concerns about spying amid a meeting of the country’s leadership.

For the most part, Tesla and the Chinese government are believed to have a good relationship.

The two came to a deal that resulted in Tesla being the first foreign automaker to fully owned a car factory in China without having to have a joint venture with a state-owned company.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has also been known to praise the Chinese people and has refrained from criticizing the Chinese government.

Nonetheless, the Chinese government has indicated clear concerns that Tesla vehicles could be involved in spying activities in its country.

Last year, the People’s Liberation Army, China’s military, issued a notice banning Tesla owners from parking their vehicles on bases and in housing complexes.

The concerns appeared to be related to Tesla’s use of cameras all around its vehicles and where the data is going.

Musk even commented on the story by stating the obvious: “Tesla is not using its vehicles’ cameras to spy on China,” but it didn’t seem to alleviate the concerns as even more government entities reportedly told employees not to park their Tesla vehicles on government property.

Following those situations, Tesla later announced that it will store all data collected in China locally.

A few months later, Tesla announced a new data center in the country in order to do just that, but it didn’t seem to alleviate all concerns.

Today, the local traffic authorities in Beidaihe announced that all Tesla cars are going to be banned from its roads for at least two months:

Beidaihe is a resort town not too far from Beijing, and it has been known to host meetings of the Chinese leadership in the summer.

While the authorities didn’t comment on the reason behind the ban, the assumption is that they don’t want the cameras on Tesla vehicles to catch anything related to the meeting.

If the shoe is on the other foot, the US would have banned Tesla a long time ago instead of China only limiting the vehicle from entering into government compounds and military installations.

Tbf smartphones and other modern gadgets are really part of a massive apparatus of surveillance. It puts DDR to shame but we allow it because it is sold as beneficial for us.

It is freaky, i am 99% sure the cellphone is listening to my conversations. Many times i talk about a certain topic and baam it “randomely” appear as a ad on my phone.
Keyword listening. You're right, smart devices are spying on you. So when Google refused to put Chinese users' data inside China, the Chinese government told them to go home. Apple, with its data center in Guizhou, is very cooperative.

Mr. Snowden later proved that American tech companies were indeed cooperating with the C.I.A. in spying.

Notice how Tesla is not outright denying such a spying scenario could theoretically occur. They said they could try and mitigate things by storing data locally...but that doesn't guarantee anything.

Meanwhile Huawei would ANGRILY say over and over and over that such a thing could never happen in their communications systems.

Snowden never said Google Android was spying on people.

He said telecom companies were the ones doing the spying on data transferred from the phone through the hardware of their networks.

That's why Huawei is on the banned list.

You mean Tesla does not deny it will actively conduct espionage on behave of the US government? You are comparing apple to orange.

No, they are simply not rabidly crying and whining like Huwaei that it would be impossible for them to access camera data. They take a realistic approach to Government concerns of possible abuse not a "playing stupid" one.

Tesla knows there could be a potential security issue with camera data and simply said the data is stored locally in China and that is as much as they can do to help alleviate concerns short of shipping cars without cameras.

BTW Elon Musk said their future FSD system will run without an internet connection so the solution is going to be solved anyway since the car wont be transmitting any data at all anywhere. So once the transmitter is removed China will have no worries. :enjoy:

This of course will not be possible with LIDAR based systems which need to grab mapping data of areas it is entering using a live connection.

Numerous countries will bring up National Security issues with the cameras used by Chinese cars pointing to the current Chinese Government actions and how they feel it is a legitimate concern.

Now remember Elon Musk has his reasons for why he is doing things..while the short-sighted Chinese EV companies are completely oblivious to the hazards of their full self driving strategy lurking on the horizon.

Since when did Huawei claim its impossible hacked into its network? Huawei has in fact made it known that the US NSA has been hacking into its network for over 7 years.

You avoided the question. Do you mean Tesla does not deny it will actively conduct espionage on behave of the US government?

That's why Huawei is on the banned list.
The documents identified several technology companies as participants in the PRISM program, including Microsoft in 2007, Yahoo! in 2008, Google in 2009, Facebook in 2009, Paltalk in 2009, YouTube in 2010, AOL in 2011, Skype in 2011 and Apple in 2012.[22] The speaker's notes in the briefing document reviewed by The Washington Post indicated that "98 percent of PRISM production is based on Yahoo, Google, and Microsoft".[1]

Lying has become your habit. But you are right huawei is banned for this because huawei equipment can stop US spying.

Nobody is talking about anybody hacking into Huawei.

Just as you pointed out Snowden was alerting people that the telecom companies themselves tend to be in cahoots with governments using both hardware and software backdoors.

There's no reason for the Government to hack into a telecom's infrastructure when they can just ask them to open the door.

No, your habit is simply making assumptions all the time. Just because one official is found corrupt in the Chinese governnment doesn't automatically mean they all are.

Google is more than just Android.

Where does that post of yours mention the Android code (which is open source BTW and compiled by vendors) has spyware?? Please find it for us all...so you can defend yourself from your own constant and perpetual lying habit.

waiting-patiently-waiting.gif

We are all patiently waiting....good luck finding it Mr perpetual liar.....you can drop from this thread now.
