KARACHI: The initial report of the attack on the Karachi airport has been presented to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The findings of the report revealed that terrorists wanted to destroy all airplanes and paralyse entire air traffic operations but the Airport Security Force (ASF) blocked their march towards Jinnah Terminal.

Meanwhile, DG ISPR Major General Asim Bajwa tweeted that the final clearance of the entire airport had been completed. He added that the airport had been handed over to CAA/ASF and would likely open at 2:00 PM.

The prime minister’s adviser Shujaat Azeem said flight operations would resume at the Karachi airport from 4:00 PM.

Heavily armed militants launched an assault on Pakistan´s busiest airport in Karachi, leaving at least 30 dead including 10 militants in a six-hour siege that the army quelled at dawn on Monday.

Explosions and gunfire rang out as the attackers, equipped with suicide vests, grenades and rocket launchers, battled security forces in one of the most brazen attacks in years in Pakistan´s biggest city.

Authorities said all 10 militants were killed and that the bodies of 18 victims, including security personnel and four airport workers, had been identified at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has accepted the responsibility of the attack.

Really? Destroy all planes? And what would that achieve? That too with a bunch of gun wielding loonies.

Did they actually think they could achieve that? What madness!

.
I have a question. Is there any information how close they came to the parking area of the machines? Got any airplanes damaged? Its good that those terrorists got stopped.

What morons they think airplanes explode like in action movies or what? They shot with machine guns would most likely cause no explosion at all. But its a very serious situation.

Those planes cost billions of dollars. They could have crippled entire PIA air operations. They would also have got coverage that they need on international stage but they failed to achieve their primary or secondary objectives.

A person who is motivated enough to blow himself can be expected to go any length to achieve his/her target.

They were equipped with RPGs, SMG and white phosphorous grenadeS along with conventional grenades. So they could have wrecked havoc if they had got near to some passenger terminal.

Glad they were stopped.

How would they destroy the planes with rocket launcher. They would need large number of C4 explosives for that.Good thing though is that they were kept away from main terminal and couldn't take any civilian hostages.

You don't think a plane can be destroyed with rocket launcher? FYI a plane with just a few bullet holes is as good as destroyed.

personally to me the lives of the 4 PIA employees martyred are worth more than the value of all those pathetic planes added together

I'm actually very pleasantly surprised at the response of PA and SSGs. A six hour siege only? That's some response time. How did they get notified so fast, how did they get there so fast? And lastly how did the airport security manage to keep them engaged till the army came. That is some valiant and heroic job. Salute.

Their SOPs are working now :pakistan:

There were 20 planes....
Mehran taught Pakistan a lot of lessons. The fact that the operation took less than half the time of Mehran is an amazing improvement, and it was done much more cleanly too.

I am impressed by speed of operation. I dont think they could destroy the planes, they could have damaged them, these are massive civilian planes not small fighter jets.

but if they had entered any terminal it would have been really bad.
