Gunmen in Bahrain have attacked a prison, killing a policeman and freeing inmates convicted of terror offences, officials say.

A security lockdown has been imposed around Jaw prison, south of the capital Manama, the interior ministry said.

It did not say how many prisoners had escaped.

Sporadic unrest has hit Bahrain since protests in February 2011 demanded an end to discrimination of the Shia majority by the Sunni Muslim rulers.

At the time, demonstrators occupied Manama's Pearl Roundabout to press for more democracy.

The protesters were driven out by security forces in March 2011, after the king brought in troops from neighbouring Sunni-led Gulf states to restore order and crush dissent.

The unrest left at least 30 civilians and five policemen dead. Almost 3,000 people were also arrested, and scores were handed long prison terms by military courts.

Opposition activists say dozens of people have been killed in ongoing clashes between protesters and security forces, while bomb attacks blamed on Iran-backed militants have left a number of police officers dead.

. . . .
Bahrain seems at least somewhat active compared to this place. It's dead boring in Qatar.

.
I don't know this prison or the details of this particular prison break but the unfortunate incident should be used constructively to improve safety procedures. Moreover the criminals who escaped should be punished as harsh as possible to make a statement.

They cannot escape from the island sooner or later security agencies will catch them.

They will eventually get caught but the masterminds behind should be caught too.

Well, you are free to return to Pakistan or go somewhere else, I imagine?

Fair enough. I did not find Doha boring last time I was there but I guess it depends on your budget and what you want to do.

It's very fun. For like the first few days. Once you've done everything, it's very uneventful.

God damn on these sick idiots. Same Sons of bitches throw Molotov's on Bahraini Police and SSF. Once a peaceful state and vacation paradise is turned into hell.

I just lost count how many Pakistanis have been killed in Bahrain. I hope the things become stable soon.

I have only visited Qatar a couple of times for no longer than a few days (extended weekends). However naturally due to Qatar's small size, you cannot reinvent the wheel time and time again.

Anyway try a desert safari or diving. The coastline of Qatar is really beautiful and largely untouched if you venture outside the inhabited areas a bit. You can have entire beaches/long stretches of coastline for yourself. There are plenty of "wild" and untouched areas in Qatar despite its rather small size. Also visit the mangroves in Al-Khor and old forts and coastal villages.

Especially the mangrove forests surprised me greatly.

As for "wild" beaches all left for yourself and those you travel with:

Also try to interact with locals. Speaking Arabic or at least trying will help greatly. If lucky you will be invited into private homes and be exposed to local cuisine etc. Try this especially on the "countryside" in Qatar.

I suspect that you are familiar with Doha and what it has to offer.

Anyway if you want real adventure and diversity, visit KSA next door.

Anyway intelligent people are never bored and you can always do something interesting. All it takes is initiative, money and some company.

Correct me if I am wrong but the number of Pakistanis killed in Bahrain in the past 6 years do not exceed 10. In general Bahrain is very stabile expect for the occasional demonstration and assassination attempts of police (they can be counted on 1 or 2 hands since 2011). I would not worry the least.
