New Delhi: Kochi has become the latest city in India to get a terror alert. The central government was prompted to issue the terror alert after interrogation of the recently arrested Indian Mujahideen leaders revealed that the city had been mentioned in cross-border terror chatter.
The port city is home to the Jewish Synagogue and Indian Navy's Naval Base. Though the inputs are not very specific, the Centre is not willing to take any chances and has sought heightened surveillance across the city.
Union Home Secretary G K Pillai, according to sources, spoke to the city police commissioner on Friday seeking tighter security along the coast at vital installations and crowded places.
