Telangana to celebrate PV Narasimha Rao's birth anniversary | Zee News
Last Updated: Saturday, June 27, 2015 - 19:41
Hyderabad: The Telangana Government would be celebrating the birth anniversary of late Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao here on Saturday.

The government had celebrated late Congress stalwart's birth anniversary last year too, soon after formation of the new state.

Rao was born in Karimnagar district, which is now in Telangana, on June 28, 1921.

The official function would be held at 'P V Gyan Bhoomi' on the banks of Hussain Sagar Lake, a government release said.

Recalling Rao's contribution to the country, Chief Minister K Chandrasekar Rao said it was a matter of pride for Telangana that the former Prime Minister was a son of the soil.

Hailing Rao as a great administrator and litterateur, the Chief Minister said he had found a unique position in history.

Telangana and Andhra Pradesh units of Congress too would jointly organise a function here tomorrow to mark Rao's birth anniversary. Rao, in his long political career, had been the Congress president too.

AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, in-charge of Congress affairs in Telangana and AP, would attend the function organised by the party.

One of India's best PM's ever & it's most under appreciated PM.

He was the father of the liberalisation of 1991!! He did an excellent job in tackling the Khalistan & Kashmir insurgency which had broken out thanks to the incompetence of the previous govt.s

"When he took over as PM in 1991, FDI was just around 132 million USD, by the time he stepped down from office in 1996, it grew to 5.3 billion USD.

While his economic reforms are well known, he took bold initiatives on the foreign policy front too. Normalizing relations with Israel which he started in 1992, also more active engagement with the West, in a post Cold War era. He also cultivated a strong relationship with Iran, while proactively adopting a Look East policy, a closer relation with ASEAN. His engagement with China and Iran, ensured Pakistan's attempts to have a resolution passed on Kashmir at UNHRC, came a cropper. In fact sending A.B.Vajpayee and Salman Khurshid to counter the Pakistan resolution on human rights in Kashmir was a master stroke. "

It is also believed that PVNR was very keen & wanted to conduct nuke tests in 1995, but had to drop them under American interference & pressure.

But as he wasn't a member of the Gandhi parivaar, he was forgotten by his party. Even after his death he was humiliated by YSR(the then CM of AP) & Sonia Gandhi. His body wasn't give the respect it deserved by Sonia Gandhi & MMS(who was ironically his protegé) & instead of being cremated in Delhi, he was cremated in Hyderabad

Narasimha Rao's final humiliation

The Goon family hated Rao because he tried to Neutralize them from within the party.

PVN was the best Congressi PM ever. & it's irony today that only non-congressis are keeping his legacy alive. It's a pity that this man had to go through such a humiliation moment after his death...& continues to be humiliated even now. Man's dead body was not allowed to be cremated in National capital with National honours. Neither his body was allowed to be kept inside Congress HQ in Delhi. Real shame...

He had tried to do his best to keep Sonia out of Congress and he paid for that once her loyalist were powerful again

I agree, he probably was the best Congress PM we ever had.
I recall when Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated, country was already dealing with deep economic crisis with possibility of default of IMF payments (something akin to a situation Greece finds itself in). Janata Dal government first under VP singh and then Chandrasekhar government had failed miserably.
When Congress came back to power riding on sympathy wave following Rajiv's death, there was little hope.
Luckily PV along with Manmohan and Montek Singh, forged a nice team and led to a revolution of Economic liberalization whose fruits are being enjoyed today.
I think it's his legacy that these policies haven't been changed now almost 25 years from the time they were formalized.
In my book he remains a man that commands respect irrespective of one's political affinity.

one of the smartest, cunniest PM of India. Cant believe he is telugu, coz most telugus are dumb as brick.
Lnj& Kuduka who the dell do you think you are to spout such nonsense!!

Out of 10,000 candidates who passed the IIT-JEE this year, more than 2,000+ students were Telugus.
Check the figures for the Top 10 rankers, about half of them will be Telugus
Whether it be AIPMT, IIT-JEE, AIEEE & most other exams, Telugu students have done brilliantly! [THough yes , I dislike the coaching factories of 11th & 12th which make their lives a living hell]
Many of our Telugu students have got a college degree(BA,BTech or MMS). Many of them have gone abroad the world to study or to work!!

Look at the figures of AP & TG & compared them to UP & Bihar!

NTT & CBN who were great administrators are Telugus!! Satya Nadella, Ramoji Rao, GMR, ANR were also Telugus. Many Freedom fighters who gave their lives for this nation were also Telugus!

In every field we have excelled:- Films, literature, Politics, Governance, Engineering,War, Science & so on!

Even the same Indian flag which you have in your profile was made by a Telugu!! So watch your tongue, stop being so ignorant & learn some da#& respect for others
