Sources close to lca-tejas.org , have informed that Work on first air frame of Mark-2 variant of Tejas fighter aircraft , will start soon and aircraft will be ready for its first flight by 2015 . we have been also been informed that first Naval LCA MK-2 will also be ready at same time which has been dubbed has NP-3 , while NP-1 which is based on MK-1 design characters just had it first flight in month of April this year and another LCA NP-2 which will be a Single seat variant will also be ready by year end , both Naval LCA aircraft’s will then be transferred and will be based in Goa Shore based testing facility some time in 2013 onwards .

Mark-2 will be powered by more powerful GE F414-IN6 with 98 kN of thrust and refined aerodynamics, and already have placed orders for 99 in first batch and second batch will be ordered once Tejas MK-2 and Naval LCA MK-2 clears first flight . The IAF is committed to procuring an initial 83 Tejas Mk2s and the Indian Navy has expressed its firm requirement for 46 LCA Mk2 (Navy).

LSP-8 and SP-1 will also have it first flight by end of this year and SP-2 will have first flight in 2013 , and it likely that LSP-7 and LSP-8 , along with SP-1 and SP-2 will be handed over to Indian air force for user trails by mid of 2013 . Navy will also order some MK-1 , which might be used as Induction fighters for pilot training , before moving to LCA MK-2 .

right now we have 22 mk1 prototypes and by 2015 we will have atleast 5-6 more,

then the mk2 will fly and we will build 30 more prototypes of it for testing till 2030, then superstealthy mk3 will fly and another 50 prototypes for testing.

they india will be the only country to build an airforce with prototypes. we dont even need to manufacture them so many testing prototypes.

Galat Jawab......SP-1 and SP-2 are just few months behind as they were supposed to be given by this year's end...which is record for DRDO....:D

kitna dhire.. bahut dhire ho raha hai..

Guys, MK2 is a big task and its not easy to design the plane so soon.

So please leave LCA alone, we are expecting too much from this bird. she will make us self reluiant one day. Until then please focus on Rafale:cool:..mind you all will come at teh same time...

abbe mazaak chal rahi hai yahaan ? 3 saal lagenge aur MK-1 se MK II pahuchne mein ? Isi rate pe 4th gen se 5th gen pahuchne mein 15 saal to lagenge hi

3-4 years delay in defence arms is nothing. have a look on either LCA mk1 or on pakistan's JF17 blk1, these aircrafts will have lost their front line use by even 2015 onward and they will then need upgrades to more than half of their techs. it is believed that most of the saturations wil occur by 2018/20 and few years delays may help LCA mk2 having most the prime techs which M-MRCA contenders had. its not just AESA radar but LCA bk2 would be as capable that 10 Rafale + 10 LCA mk2 will work as good as 20 Rafale, if IAF may delay its program for 3-4 years to have best inputs for this aircraft, which will then work for IAF till 2050, and afterward. also, India already delivery of over 42 4.5 gen aircrafts right now, why to hurry? :undecided:

WHEN YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT DEVELOPMENT YOU GIVE SUCH STATMENTS.....

GIVE IT A BRAKE. WE NEED THOSE PLANES TO BE SUCCESSFUL. LET THE WHOLE WORLD CRITICISE LCA I SUPPORT IT.
BUT PLEASE DONT ABANDAN IT. IF WE FAIL IT HVE COURAGE TO DEVELOP ANOTHER FIGHTER ON THE EXPERIANCE GAINED FROM LCA.

NO COUNTRY CAN BE A SUPERPOWER ON IMPROTED WEOPNS.

I SEE INDIA IMPROTING CLOSE TO 70% OF THEIR WEPONS. BUT IN DECADES TIME THIS FIGURE WILL CHANGE. WE WILL BE PRODUCING MORE THAN 70% OF OUR NEED IN INDIA. COMEON MAN WE ARE JUST A DECADE & HALF IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF WEPONS. IT WILL TAKE TIME, DESIGNES & TECH WILL MATURE & ONLY AFTER IT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO TEST THE FRUITS OF ALL THE HARDWORK DONE BY OUR SCIENTISTS.

ACTUALLY A VERY GOOD POINT YOU MADE HERE.

IAF HAS CHANGED THEIR REQUIREMENTS MORE THAN TWICE CONTRIBUTING TO THE DELAY OF LCA.
BETTER GET A COUPLE OF SQUARDENS OF Mk1. GAIN AS MUCH KNOLEDGE AS POSSIBLE FROM Rafale, AND THEN GO FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF Mk2.

I fully support ur positive outlook towards LCA project, i m of the opinion that IAF will get one of the best planes in there inventory in the form of LCA.Patience is the key here :)

Guys, MK2 is a big task and its not easy to design the plane so soon.

Is it really? To be honest, when we look at the changes of MK2 we know so far, there is hardly any BIG change of the airframe that would require major design changes. The fuselage will be stretched to house the new fuel tanks and engines, but that's it right?
The new engines are upgraded version of the older once with the same size, which actually should make the integration very easy and fast. Wasn't this even one of the main points of procuring this engine?
AESA and IRST developments on the other side would be new, but are not confirmed yet anyway and don't need major design changes too.

So all in all, why they need 4 to 5 years (2010 engine selection, 2011 show of MK2 models at Aero India) to first fly an MK2 prototype?
On the other side, they needed 2 years to first fly N-LCA prototype after roll out without any changes at all, so I shouldn't be that surprised about the long timeframe for MK2.

It's a shame what we do with this project, because it is so important for our indigenous industry and the fighter itself has a lot of potential, but we simply fail to get to propper planing and development as it seems. :frown:
