. .
Anyone have any update on IAC 1? (i tried looking for it from MG road in cochin couldn't see it)

That is the plan ASFIK

And its a very very bad plan:p

VK Singh as defense minister will change a lot of things.. No harm wishing :)
On the military knowledge of politicians: "I wonder whether those of our political masters who have been put in charge of the defence of the country can distinguish a mortar from a motor; a gun from a howitzer; a guerrilla from a gorilla, although a great many resemble the latter."

A carrier fighter should be good enough to at least hold on to enemy assault during blockade or other scenarios.

tejas can barely compete with jf-17(no offence to jf-17),it has no chance against a chinese flanker or pakistani f-16 block 40(after mlu).

So whats the point?

Even mig-29 k is average but at least it has a good t/w and max takeoff weight, not to mention a non-podded irst.
Tejas is simply not a good option as a carrier fighter.

It has a future as a good point defence fighter:)

Isn't there some quality associated with quantity? We can theoretically make more N-LCA than Mig-29. So in a war of attrition, I think we can replace our carrier based aircraft faster and provide for substantial amounts of headache to the enemy.

We won't have a carrier left to begin with if we use tejas:eek::eek::eek:

There are limits to what a small fighter can do.
It certainly can't be a good carrier fighter with current specs:mad:

Naval Tejas will be more of a technical demonstrator , technology evolution platform, data collection platform for naval aviation.
Like dealing with corrosion in seas ,metallurgy required etc no one shares know how or know why of those small things.

But don’t under estimate the power of small fighters.

best fighters for carrier aviation should be in between mig-29k and f-18.Flankers are too big.

Mk 2 will also be small they will mostly be used as trainers .

Don’t have too much expectations on tejas they are world class point defence fighters.
Compare them only with other point defence fighters.

The MiG-29K is the best carrier fighter in the S.Asian region (discounting the US's 7th fleet).

The N-LCA (based on the IAF's MK.2) will be quite a bit more advanced than the JF-17.

The point is India (and everyone) has to start everywhere. India wants to build naval fighters in the future the N-LCA is the first step down the road for that ambition....

As for military relevance, it will be useful for training young jocks on carrier aviation at a cheaper buck (single engine fighter with lower costs vs the MIG-29K). Additionally will be useful for point defence/CAP duties for the ACC/fleet as the more capable MIG-29Ks go off and do their own missions. However the numbers of the N-LCA always be limited to around 2-3 SQDs though. A good starting point but not what the IN would ultimately want down the line.
