Tejas induction only by mid-2014

Wishing our Indian friends much success with their indigenously produced TEJAS Fighter. Better late than never is my motto. I am sure as they overcome various obstacles, they are learning from these experiences and this knowledge will come in handy in the future projects.

So Good Luck Guys, your day will come soon and all the naysayers will have to eat their words.

. .
i have no shame in agreeing that TEJAS has eaten up way too much funds and taken hell lot of a time... and I don't feel embarrassed to even accept that it might not be a hit...

BUT
BUT
BUT

this is the first fighter we have built... from scratch... in spite of technology being denied to us... with all the red-tapism... and inefficiencies in our Defence Production system !!!

And I know that the next one will be much much better.. and what I look at is 2030, when we will finally be able to be completely self-dependent on our OWN fighter aircraft! and for next 20 years, and even beyond, we have enough birds coming... moreover with our collaboration for FGFA and all, I'm sure that the tech know-how will help us in being more efficient and making meaner and leaner birds!!

pakistani PDF members, what the hell are u happy for??? u can just feel happy for the fighters built by your friend China (and i won't talk about the JF-17 crashes... ATLEAST, by whatever means, they have managed to make a very good fighter!!!!). and we must respect China for striving to be self-reliant, and we can learn from their self-respect and sincerity! I find nothing wrong with that!

I am totally in consonance with GURUDUTT!!! we should give credit where its due... Atleast China has shown others (including us, to some extent), how to go about developing your country!

I'm really sad at this turn of events! This is a crucial point for the indian fighter program.

Either we let LCA slide into another Marut- a great fighter whose time never came; or we could galvanize ourselves and take the indian fighter program to greater heights. We have taken the later path in the past with nuclear reactors and IGMDP.

Hoping for the best! Chak de India!

IMO,USA engine is why have there been some delays in the LCA Tejas..

My Freind China is a communist country where the goals are set by the govt. & no matter what & at any cost they are done because they(chinese)cant say no!! but in india there is so much beurocratic hurdels & killer corruption that chinese cant even think of so the end point is the will & ways to achieve ....we indians do have the will but the path to achieve the goal is roddelled with boobytraps....hope you got the POINT ....Thanks Again .

This thread has totally gone down the gutter. It is a difficult position to be in, for IAF fans, because of these delays, and I can sympathize with that.

I think it's a positive thing that they're taking the time to thoroughly iron out all issues. The alternate would be for DRDO/HAL to rush this aircraft to service to save face, and that would lead to serious problems and bad combat record on the service.

I think we Pakistanis need to be big here, and not grill India on this. Their's is not an enviable position to be in, we would have felt bad as well, if something our nation took pride in got experienced delays and problems.

We don't want to be petty and insecure like others...

IF u really thinks about bad combat record then why Jft entered in service......
it would be better for u to buy some second hand MIG'S from INDIA

WE WILL BE HAPPY..TO GIVE THEM FEW USED MIGS FOR FREE

Like I said... this thread is down the gutter. Mainly because Indians are pulling at straws.

India can keep it's MiGs, their 1000-crashes accomplishment is unique, and we do not want to take that away from them.

JF17 has entered service after clearing all the stages India is going through now, it has been through IOC and then FOC, been through thorough testing. Why is SU-30 MKI in service? It's crash record is much worse than JF-17's. The JF-17 has been flying since 2003 and only now in 2011 has the first one crashed. And even the jet that crashed, was going through testing and evaluation, before getting inducted by the PAF.

I do not wish to debate on these off-topic things with you. And I do not want to capitalize on Tejas' delays, to embarrass India here. I suggest we stay on-topic.

People keep harping on the 1000 crashed since blah blah times without realising that this figure has no consequence. Its accident rate/ 10,000 hrs that is the industry wide standard that needs to be compared. If we take that into account, IAF has a crash rate of around 1.4 which is acceptable, but needs to be brought down.

There has been 2 crashed of MKI since 2001. One was pilot error, one was manufacturing defect. JF-17 has had a good record because it is basically a derived product rather than a R&D. It was derived from an existing product and worked upon extensively.
