Tarmak007 -- A bold blog on Indian defence: Tejas all set to log 2000th flight at Aero India

The devotees of desi military technologies will have every reason to cheer during the upcoming air show, with India's Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, likely to cross the 2000th test flight mark. In the last 11 years, Tejas variants have together clocked 1981 flights, logging over 1200 hours. However, aviation aficionados will miss the formation flight of Tejas on the inaugural day (Feb 6), with the organisers deciding against it, sighting technical reasons.
In an interview to Express, Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) Director P.S. Subramanyam said that one aircraft from the Limited Series Production (LSP) phase and another from the prototype flight-line will be doing the flying display duties on all five days of the show.
“During last air show we had a formation flight of 5 Tejas. This time, we are informed that there won't be any formation flights at all. However two Tejas aircraft will demonstrate various manouvering capabilities such as vertical loops, barrel rolls, low-speed flying, high-speed low-altitude flying and inverted flying,” Subramanyam.
He said the visitors will have an opportunity to get up-close with the full-fledged updated cockpit of Tejas, loaded with all possible weapons. On the menu are an R-73 missile, laser-guided bombs, 1000 lb bombs, practice bombs and the beyond-visual range missiles Derby and Astra.
“In addition to exhibiting our technological capabilities, ADA will unleash latest avionics suit for the IOC configuration. We shall put the spotlight on self-reliance India has achieved in designing and developing combat airplanes,” Subramanyam said.
The ADA chief said that the naval prototype (NP-1) of LCA will not be at the show this time. “We are planning to have a 1:1 model of the NP-1,” he said.

LCA is done anyway. I mean 40 LCAs .... based in TN. Thats a joke. But I am not blaming the IAF, I mean they have access to the worlds best aircraft. 5th gen stealth fighters, Rafales, SU 30 MKIs... Tejas is in a different league.

40 are just the first tranche. There will be more than a hundred of the second tranche. The only reason that the MK1 was capped at 40 is because the Mk2 is being developed. Basing it at sulur is fine, because the IAF needs time to develop tactics and doctrines for the LCA. Unlike foreign aircrafts, which have already flown in other air forces, this will be the first time Tejas flies in any AF.

All together, Mk1, Mk2 and N-LCA will number close to 200 if not more. The number of mirages and mig 29s in the IAF has been less than 70. Currently there are about 50 mirages, and 60 mig 29s. So even 40 is not a "joke" as you claim. Anyway, the LCA will serve in large numbers. That is inescapable, since the IAF needs 42 squadrons by 2022.

Looking foreward to seeing the updated LCA cockpit.

Tejas Cockpit..

However, for the Tejas Mk II, both the IAF and Indian Navy have recommended that the projected cockpit should offer a range of new and enhanced features such as a centric, modular concept of operation, enabling pilots to control and personalise the displays, applications and information sources. The IAF is believed to have zeroed in earlier this year on the CockpitNG option, which was originally developed by HALBIT Avionics Pvt Ltd, the joint venture between ELBIT Systems and the MoD-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL).

Here it is...

Cockpit+NG.jpg

The LAD touch-screen offers a unique concept of operation, enabling pilots to personalise their displays, applications and information with a sweep of the finger, according to specific mission requirements. The cutting-edge 3-D map concept of operation, centered in large size, projects a 3-D image of the world, viewing fused information from own-ship sensors and data-link members’ sensors. The projection of fused synthetic and real-time pictures, videos, sensors and information makes any mission possible and supports successful achievement of enhanced mission goals in all weather conditions.

For the CockpitNG, an advanced display fusion engine (ADFE) has been developed, allowing information to be fused in multiple layers, yet displayed in one place. The new capabilities provide pilots with enhanced situational awareness and mission management, reduce pilot workload and support successful achievement of mission goals in all weather conditions.

Cheers!

Atlast some good news .

But the mystery still surrounds around LSP6 .

Yeah but the article mentioned there will be an "updated" cockpit for MK.1. I am interested to see shared these updates are.
Check out my post #9 again. I do not think the cockpit of the Mk-1 will be 'updated'. It is the CockpitNG LAD touch-screen config that will be incorporated into the Tejas Mk-2 as shown in the second pic in my post.

. .
This cockpit wa scopied from Pakistani JFT.
Previously, it was old fashioned and very unorganised.. typical of any indian product.

Still.,..why open new thread? while you can put it in already running teja thread!
