MUZAFFARABAD: A teenage girl was shot dead by her cousin here on Saturday allegedly in the name of honour.

A student of FSc, the girl had eloped with her neighbour (I), following which an application was lodged by her father with the Civil Secretariat Police Station on Feb 18, accusing the boy of abducting her.

Police arrested the couple in Rawalpindi and produced them before a court here on Feb 25.

The boy was sent to the lock-up and the girl was set free.

On Saturday forenoon, the girl's cousin Raja Babar allegedly shot her in the head, SHO Ansar said. She died on way to hospital.

Babar surrendered himself to police along with the weapon used in the crime and he had been charged with homicide, the SHO said.

This happens in India also, I mean all over India. But people get killed more in N India than rest of the country.

Sigh!! this is problem of mind set of people. Law can only punish the culprits. It will change, definitely, but will take some more generation and with education.

BTW, if a parent of Boy/Girl are not happy with them, they can disown them, make a will and debar them from their inheritance etc. and let them live their own life, but certainly has no right to take their life.

Govts can only advice people through various mean. But again our leaders also follow the same path like in Punjab(Biwi Jagir Kaur episode) some years back. So what the people will learn from their leaders?

very south asian crime this... comes from the joint family culture where the youngsters are essentially slaves to the various uncles and aunts, and enforcers of the the criminal ideas of these "elders".

and every two-bit laborer or wage-slaver officer-worker in south asia seems to some "honor" that must be protected by the females in his family... doesn't matter if this laborer of city wage-slave has no influence outside the gate of his house.
