"But after successfully rescuing the cobra, he took it to another location where was attempting to record his act of kissing the cobra on its head.

"It was during that photo-op the snake suddenly turned and bit Somnath on his chest."

Animal lover Mr Mhatre - who had rescued more than 100 snakes - died on February 2.

Activists are now calling on the Forest Department to issue guidelines to take action against those involved in performing and posting pictures of stunts involving snakes.

probably snake dint like the selfie. What guidelines can forest department enforce on morons like this?

.
Well Snakes are a religious symbol in their culture and some folks handle these creatures as snakes are abundant in their country.

Saw some folks kiss a snake before , however normally those are "de-fanged" to prevent an attack. Such snakes are carried by performers who perform for people for showmanship

Certainly a crazy story share , if the person attempted to kiss a "Loaded" snake one that was not defanged

Snake Venom results in tremendous amount of Nerve System damage and flesh destruction , in few hours. Just a very deadly creature not to be messed with

For some snake bites the flesh just "Melts" away not to be seen by the faint of heart

PS:
Some snake venom is so potent that if it splashes onto your skin just a few drops if they get thru a wound can do the damage

i.e Knock out your Limbs and nervous system functions

Generally not a big snake person, but I happen to find cobras fascinating creatures.

Not fascinating enough however to try and get very close to one.

RIP young man
