Technocrat govt can't resolve Pakistan's issues: PM Abbasi

A technocrat or undemocratic government cannot resolve the issues faced by Pakistan, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said.

“The masses are cognisant of the incumbent government’s performance and they will make their decision [by casting their votes] in the 2018 general elections,” the premier said after inaugurating an oil and gas project in Attock on Friday.

“We need to strengthen democracy because the journey on the path to development cannot continue without stable democracy.”

Abbasi, who took over the PM’s office after disqualification of Nawaz Sharif from office in August, claimed PML-N’s performance during the last four years was better than the work done [by the former governments] in the last 15 years.

“Initiation of 103 oil and gas projects during the aforementioned period is a sign of better future for the country,” Abbasi said. The project in Attock, other than oil and gas, he added, will offer 50 tonnes of liquid petroleum gas (LPG).

The PM claimed that every sector was being provided with the facility of gas. “The government has added more than 10,000MW of electricity to the national power grid during its tenure,” he added.

Has he accepted himself as the Prime Minister? Because the last time I saw him, he was still talking like he was holding the seat for "the Tiger". Great development, then. And if any future Technocrat Govt can't resolve Pakistan's issues, what are you doing in that regard?

I totally agree with the philosophy that a technocrat government is not the solution.

Given the fact that most of the elite have looted the money through designed corruption. Ordinary people will only be a witness to the transition of power from one set of masters to the other.

Say no to the people who actually made the country and have been running it since its inception? The remnants of half of the founding Muslim League? How exactly does one do that, again?

Earth to El Sidd.

Reset the clock to 1857 and start again with democracy one may say.

3 whole generation of enslaved people cannot be freed that easily.

Better yet. Get the Britishers back if you can or let them run things through a Viceroy. Re-enable the honors of the Queen (Elizabeth the Second, Queen of the United Kingdom and of Her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth) and carry a small union jack at the side of the national flag. They seemed more capable of running the country than the Pakistanis. The state of the country currently is beyond pathetic and no entity similar to a Govt is visible.

Its not about them being the "messiah". I have just said that they ran Pakistan better than the Pakistanis. Of course, they looted the country and furthered their own interests, but still after all that, there was a visible Govt more responsible and committed than anything we have seen since the Quaid-e-Azam died and Liaquat Ali Khan got shot.

We have had seventy years to prove ourselves capable and worthy and yet we have failed. So its either do it ourselves or let others take charge.

They did not run anything better. They were fair to themselves as owners of this region. Corruption was rife then and now as well.

Nothing changes in these woods.

Status quo has not changed in India in more than a thousand years. Qasim looted here as well.

This is a grave many have laid. The process and the system is fine if wealth is distributed fairly and law remains blind and equal.

The champions of democracy now vouch for technocrat government and laud the army. I ask you my fellow Pakistani. What give?

I both agree and disagree with the PM. If we have a technocrat government for 3-5 years, of even 10 years, it is a waste of time. What we need is a technocrat government for the next 30 years with the remit of fixing the long term problems in the country. This government should be held accountable by a review every 10 years by a panel of judges, military head and political representatives using key performance indicators.

Key Problems to tackle
1. The economy
2. illiteracy
3. Corruption
4. Establishment of independent institutions
5. Law and order (lack of)
6. Infrastructure

After the first 10 years local government should be restored to elected representatives under the watch of a centrally appointment committee of technocrats.

After 20 years provincial governance should be restored to elected representatives under the watch of a centrally appointment committee of technocrats.

After 30 years national governance should be restored to elected representatives under the watch of a centrally appointment committee of technocrats.

In this time we need to educate the electorate, close the loopholes for exploitation in our "governance" system, hang the corrupt, put in processes to limit opportunity for corruption and increase the chance of being caught.

If you want a quick for years of respite from this, then there is no point, we need serious measured, considered change for the long term, not a dictatorial term.

There are structures from the British era in old, dusty but still architecturally sound state and yet those made by the Pakistani Govt fail or crumble or look in abysmally bad state just after a year of being made. Speaks loads as to which one ran things better. See, there's the problem, they were maybe bad for us but at least loyal to themselves. We, on the other hand, aren't even that. Corruption exists in all countries of the world, but blatant and open corruption, speaks to the fact that people aren't even afraid of the authorities noticing. They know, as a matter of fact, that nobody can do anything against them. Why the hell should they care then?

Oh well, do you expect anything rational and logical from a group of people who label a certain Thanvi who wrote in the Behashti Zewar (Heavenly Jewellery) that girls should only be taught to read and write, if they are stupid and not bright, as Hakeem-ul-Ummat (the Physician of the Ummat)? Its understandable why we are on artificial life support if we consider such backward, misogynist, sexist as our physician.

And knowing and understanding the reality on ground, we shouldn't exactly be optimistic and hopeful. This is the way things have been run and this is the way things will be run in the future. So long, my dear countrymen.

Lets go back to August 1947. Salaries of civil servants slashed by half, in the Trucial states.

Lol what has thanvi to do with British infrastructure?

The state doesn't recommend these books.

The very mullah who supported the Brits in 1857 still rule the intellectual minds of the British subjects.

Lol what a cheap shot dude.....

I admire your concerns for Pakistani people
