Tata Motors plans assembly unit in Bangladesh, to make 50,000 cars a year

I don't know what this means. If it means that Tata has become the bestselling car brand in Bangladesh then I don't believe it. Where are these cars? @Species, @Homo Sapiens and @UKBengali bhais do you?

Tata does sell a lot of truck and bus chassis locally because the price point is very low compared to Hino and Mitsubishi ones. Carriage components (Coach bodies and truck van enclosures) are built and fitted locally.

In Chittagong streets, I haven't seen any Tata passenger cars. I bet it's the same situation in other cities as well. The thing is a large part of car owners in Bangladesh own a car as a symbol of their social status. And traditionally, Indian products have a reputation of being down market, a customer would any day prefer a reconditioned Japanese car over a brand new Indian car. It will take some time to change this perception. I guess the said assembly plant of Tata mainly targets export to Northeast India and Southeast Asia.

This is the Tata Tiago’s first BIG reported crash
Posted on April 6, 2017 by Shantonil Nag

The Tiago is slowly putting the Tata Motors brand back on track. The car has been constantly adding around 5,000 units to the sales of Tata brand monthly. More cars on the road means more chances of some getting into trouble. Here is the first reported big crash of the Tata Tiago.

How did this happen?
The hatchback was involved in the crash with a truck in what it seems to be an overtaking maneuver going wrong. As the road was made on a platform, it seems that the Tiago rolled over a few times before coming to a halt. The truck has also rolled over and fallen on the side of the road, and can be seen behind the Tiago.

The airbags of the car have opened and saved the occupants from critical injuries. The pictures indicate a gory sight, of the car’s roof being ripped off. Thankfully, none of the car’s passengers are said to be injured critically, in what seems to be a huge accident.

The Tiago’s A-pillar remains intact on the driver side even though the roof has been uprooted giving a sight on the structural integrity of the hatchback.

Tiago’s safety features
The Tiago comes with a decent set of safety features in the top-end variant. The car gets dual front airbags. There is also ABS + EBD as standard on the top variants. Even though the car has not been tested for the safety on the NCAP, the Tiago looks structurally from the crashes.

Tata Tiago has a MASSIVE crash but airbags don’t deploy: We explain why!
Posted on April 15, 2018 by CarToq Editor

A Tata Tiago hatchback was recently involved in a massive crash in which it was completely mangled. The Tiago in question is said to have rear ended a truck at high speed. However, both the airbags of the car didn’t open during the crash. What gives? We explain!

First of all, the Tiago offers airbags only on the top-end XZ variant, and from the looks of it, this crashed car does look like the XZ variant thanks to the alloy wheels and the wing mirrors with integrated turn indicators that it sports. The next step is obviously identifying the factors that may have led to the airbags not deploying.

From the images, it appears that the crash was at the level of the A-pillar rather than the bumper. In impacts where cars rear end trucks or other commercial vehicles, especially ones that don’t have under-run protection, airbags typically don’t deploy. In such crashes, the A-Pillar of the car hits the rear of the truck first before the rest of the car’s front end get impacted.

This means that the car has already decelerated, and the airbag sensors do not come into play during the secondary impact, which is generally much lesser than the first impact. The pictures of the mangled Tiago indicate that the car’s front end (bumper and headlamps) have a much lower impact than the A-Pillar and the roof, again pointing to the theory that the car rear ended a truck, and that the A-Pillar took the heaviest impact, first.

Seatbelt theory?
While some may point out that airbags don’t open if seatbelts aren’t worn, that is not true in case of all cars. Tiago owners have reported that airbags have opened despite seatbelts not being worn, and the car owner’s manual describes something similar. Here’s a screengrab of the Tiago’s owner’s manual, which specifies the various scenarios for airbag deployment.

Now, of course, all this is based on speculation, and only a thorough investigation of the crash by trained vehicle safety engineers will reveal more about the circumstances where airbags don’t deploy in a crash.

Nexon compact SUV owner thanks Tata Motors after BIG rollover crash
Posted on January 24, 2018 by CarToq Editor

Generally, car owners are extremely upset after crashes, and understandably so. Exceptions do exist though. A Nexon owner, in this case Shreejith Kumar of Goa, who was recently involved in a crash that saw his brand new compact SUV rolling over, actually thanked Tata Motors. The owner posted on the Nexon owner’s group in Facebook, highlighting how his Nexon’s ‘Build and god’s grace saved him and his family‘.

How did it happen?

According to Mr. Kumar, he was driving his brand new Nexon someplace in Goa. Three others – his wife, 5 year-old and 7 month-old sons – were with him in the compact SUV. Mr. Kumar had to swerve sharply to the left to avoid colliding with a Tata Ace pick up truck coming from the opposite direction.

During the sharp swerve to the left, the front-left tyre that went off the road burst. And even as Mr. Kumar was regaining control of the car, a woman appeared suddenly on the road, causing him to steer off the road, this time to the right. A roadside ditch caused the Nexon to roll over.

Thankfully, Mr. Kumar and his young family in the Nexon escaped without a single scratch. He adds that no third party (in this case the people in the Tata Ace and the woman on the road) was injured in this crash. Currently, the Tata Nexon is at a dealership, awaiting repairs.

As the pictures indicate, the compact SUV seems to have taken the impact quite well. The roof hasn’t caved in, and the doors including the hatch lid were operable even after the crash. All in all, the solid build of the Nexon is likely to have saved the day for Mr. Kumar and family.

Build quality often is the difference between life and death during accidents. A well-built car, whose body structure is capable of withstanding and absorbing the severe stresses caused by a crash, is preferable to that with a weak body structure.

Cars with weak/unstable body structures often end up transferring the impact to the passengers of the vehicle, severely injuring or even killing them in the process. Also, supplementary safety devices such as airbags are useless in cars with weak body structures. To sum it up: It’s advisable to buy a well-built car.

Apparently a 20 mile crash can do this to a Tiago. Total asset loss. Non-repairable.

And this is what happens to a Nano in a regular crash. Nothing left of the car or two occupants. Telltale signs of destruction everywhere. RIP. :frown:

The large number of fatalities in Indian roads (increasing at 5 to 10% every year) are due to poor quality vehicles manufactured there.

Its more than enough for an LDC:

If you want better, get your hagseena govt to apply its own standards (rather than piggy back off India as usual)....or just be fine with her opening her snatch nice and wide as usual. After all beggar swamp can stand to lose some of its population anyway...while forking over money to master India simultaneously. This is the final conclusion of your POS cunt-ry till indian ocean swallows it up and submerges it.

So open up!...we got some shafting to do....your tears don't matter...those are for when ICE beat your LA ghetto door down and deport your scrawny illegal 25k a year (if that) janitor behind....right back to the gutter swamp you came from....BD parasites deserve nothing more, nothing less.

Just tell your whore slaves to stop worshipping Indian superiority so much, like I know Pakistan gave you some good loving...supposedly in the millions and your women are missing all of that (because of the twink effeminate nature of BD men)... but we aren't into you that way k...become your own people please:

The large number of fatalities in Indian roads (increasing at 5 to 10% every year) are due to poor quality vehicles manufactured there.

What is messed up (past you pulling numbers out of your ***) is Bangladesh has a road fatality death rate of 1000+ (per 100,000 vehicles).

India its around 130, Pakistan around 280.

Basically you take it to the next level, good job chitty LDC beggar swamp!

Anymore crap you want to vent thats going to backfire on your chit for brains butthurt?

Bangladeshis prefer their Japs even if they're are second hand (they also hold a steady value imo). Their reliability and lifetime is worth an investment and like someone posted earlier purchasing cars is like an asset in BD. All I did witness is Toyota Noahs, Corollas, Vitz etc.

True.

Bangladesh is filled with Tata trucks though

Tata-HEXA-Crash.jpg

Tata Motors launched the Hexa SUV in January, and we now have the first crash reported in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu just weeks after the launch.

Pictures of the Hexa crash have emerged on Facebook which are of the top-end AT variant.

The vehicle which belongs to TAFE showroom was been driven at high speeds excess of 100 km/h and the prospective customer lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a turn.

Tata-HEXA-Crash-front-1.jpg

According to the eyewitness the driver must have got confused with the brake and accelerator pedal and might have stepped on the accelerator pedal instead of brake which caused the vehicle to go out of control and crashed into a road-side shop.

The good part was that the occupants inside the vehicle did not suffer any injury and walked out unscratched.

The top end XTA variant Hexa is equipped with six airbags. The front impact made the dual front airbags open, which saved the occupants from front injuries while the side airbags did not deploy.

Tata-HEXA-Crash-side-3.jpg

The vehicle has been damaged considerably with the front left tyre broken and rear right side receiving destruction. The positive side from the crash proves the strong build quality of the Hexa.

A good learning from here is one should not take safety measures granted. We should always wear seat belts inside the car while travelling which prevent the occupants from being tossed around in the vehicle when it goes out of control.

Yes, thanks to the assembling plant of a Japanese company and its technology. As far as I understand Suzuki does not manufacture even a small body part in India. It brings in all and assemble them. Now, you are telling, it is India made. But, can we tell Mitsubishi Pajero is made in BD?

What, I don't believe that I actually worked with Maruti...

Just so you know, Suzuki engines were made in India way back, here is just one example of an iteration 10 years ago:

https://www.marutisuzuki.com/corpor...ls-next-generation-kb-engine-plant-at-gurgaon

I don't want to embarass you any more with more recent articles of Suzuki engine production inside India (K series engine etc).

Again I am waiting to see if you are still claiming Maruti Suzuki does not make engines, transmissions and powertrains inside India.

Or was the Honda video enough to chastise you on this?

@Ryuzaki

We make all kinds of engines inside India to global specifications and standards:

Simple, In India if any company imports car parts from outside, they can't compete with others.

.
What, I don't believe that I actually worked with Maruti...

You will notice @bluesky stopped answering after the video proof got posted. I guess Honda is good enough for him to back down....because Maruti-Suzuki is way larger/established in India.

.
Refer to Topcat, its the new cars sales most likely.

Bangladeshis will never change lol:

LOL (esp at the end, watching the manly Indian rocket launch, that innuendo regarding the BD psyche now :enjoy:):

You guys should stop worshipping India so much (no we will not be launching rockets from LDC-desh, just buy our small crap cars that even we won't buy, thanks)....I mean sheesh have some shame.

@Michael Corleone
Never seen one of these cars on the road though, bus and trucks only... that too none are from this century
Tata is a niche in bd

.
TATA has now officially stopped the production of Indica and Indigo.

They're expected to stop Nano's production as well as they made only a few dozen last month.

Let's wait and see if BD is fortunate enough to still get the assembly of these legendary cars.

.
Tata does sell a lot of truck and bus chassis locally because the price point is very low compared to Hino and Mitsubishi ones.
I do not know about the actual price difference between Japanese and Tata trucks/buses, but I have seen almost all the trucks on the BD roads are TATA or other Indian ones. However, I think I have also seen almost all the hi-fi buses are Japan made. It is because BD people like to ride in the luxurious buses.

.
Never seen one of these cars on the road though,

They have started just over the last few years (quickly climbing to no 3 and now even no 1 for new car sales), of course it will take some time to become visible.....Bangladeshis just do not buy much cars to begin with....and when they do its dominated by used clunkers. Your poverty and ineptitude is again not our problem.

bus and trucks only... that too none are from this century

Well we have much left over capacity stock (pre B-III smoke belching engines) that cannot be sold in India anymore...and Bangladesh is a poor country with very low LDC purchasing power...so its natural fit to sell that chit to them (that we otherwise have to scrap to make room for actual stuff we buy that is in demand now)...and make some extra coin that otherwise would not be made.

If you want better, approach your govt to make the standards and grow your own wallets too....so you are a country that can get trucks and buses like this instead:

If you have the coin (like Thailand), we will export you the best we can do and you can test it:

Till then what you buy is solely ON YOU...NOT US. You are poor.... and beggars cannot be choosy....and think they can get premium for dirt cheap. Small cheap crap for small cheap crappy people....thats how free market 101 works. Try get to these countries levels first before you whinge about "not from this century in BD waaah":
