Tarique against religion-based politics

Well he should start distancing his party from Jamat and other Islamist parties.. Till he and his party keep sucking up to Islamists, AL will stay in power.

Genetic tests have proven that Bengali Muslims have little to no foreign ancestry. The name Bengal comes from a Dravidian tribe called Vang which inhabited the region. Here is what most Bangladeshis look like:

So what??! You hate dark people?

No wonder caste-ridden India was found to be what it is in the following survey:

The whole Arab world writer this name as "Tariq" in english but I don't understand the reason why some south asian people have started replacing simple "q" in every word with stupid "que" without any logic.

BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman has said political parties should not be based on religion even though the alliance led by his party has multiple constituents of that nature.

Religion could contribute to politics but no party should be based solely upon it, he said at the event to mark BNP’s 36th founding anniversary in East London on Tuesday.

He quoted his father, former military ruler Ziaur Rahman, urging leaders and activists to pay heed to his contention.

“Ziaur Rahman while he was president told a workshop on September 1980 that political ideal cannot be based on religion,” he reminded.

“We’ve learned from experience that politics of that kind doesn’t work, it didn’t during Pakistan era.”

Tarique felt that religion-based political groups in Bangladesh have failed despite repeated efforts.

“There are many among us who have tried to create political essence and outline based on religion. But invariably they have failed.”

The BNP leads the 20-Party alliance that has an array of Islamic groups, including the Jamaat-e-Islami which played a central role in the war crimes committed during Bangladesh’s Liberation War.

BNP has also been protesting against the calls to ban Jamaat.

Tarique, accused in a slew of criminal cases at home, left Dhaka after an army-backed Caretaker government took over in 2008.

He has been living in the UK with his family since then.

He made a public appearance in May last year in a BNP function in London and since then has been participating in party events.

Well he makes sense :coffee:

It is really heartening to see a bold statement like this from TZ, coming at a time when he could easily have used religion to score cheap political points. While the 'Hindu threat' is being played up by some quarters, its excellent that Tarek has chosen to prioritise social harmony and patriotism over gutter politics.

I use the word patriotism because the exploitation of religion for political and financial gain is a cancer in our country - and every citizen should set aside their personal agenda to control this disease.

It's a testament to our nation that the opposition can be so mature :enjoy:

Ps. why are you people wasting so much time on genetic heritage?! Newsflash people: no one cares who your ancestors are. If you are a dark skinned Muslim that's what you are - no point going on about the Mughals and the Khiljis - the only one standing here is you so strengthen yourself!

the religion in this case is anti-Muslim Bengali Nationalism.

You've obviously misunderstood the point. Light or dark, you are a Bangladeshi and you stand as you are today. If you're trying to find some kind of self-worth by proving Bds are descended from mughals, I'm afraid you will fail miserably.

No we don't. These are some of your own country men (like kalu mia, khair ctg, eastwatch, idune etc) who not only hate their root but also hate their own body and looks. They think they are from Afghanistan Turkey and Honululu. They are not people of this beautiful land called BD.

I think when these guys have sleep they have dreams like moving around Turkey or Afghanistan but in the morning looking at their face in the mirror they wake up and hate the mirror and everything else.

What a saddist life.

Guys please be cool and love what you are and love your country. Not some distant turkey, afghans.

Dravidians were very rich and had an advanced civilization. Now also Drivad states of India are most forward in terms of technology and economy.

You are right. There is no arguing that all we live in this country is Bangladeshi and their different roots doesnt matter.
There is no confusion on that.

But @khair_ctg started this argument. When I gave credit to all Muslim rulers of Hindustan by telling them indigenous people not invaders. As they did all to shape these countries India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
They chose this as their homeland.

But @khair_ctg wasnt agreeing that they belonged to this land. He was on his ideology that Muslim rulers can be called inveder foreigners only.

To this arguments there came these talks of different ancestry. Im sorry if anyone is hurt by talks of skin tones and others @Sriram

But the fact is at last @khair_ctg agreed with my point, which is the good news :yahoo:

But I will always be in my stand to glorify Bengal and Bangladesh's history and culture.
Religious glory doesnt mean anything to me.

@eastwatch you also misinterpreted my posts.

This @kalu_miah individual lives a very sad life it seems. All his time is spent obsessing over a mythical Arab or Turk origin.

I understand where you were coming from and I agree in that if you want to look at ancestry look at it all - people shouldn't be selective. :enjoy:

Which is why I prefer just our current BDeshi identity, which is what matters right now.

My point about skin tones is in the same lines. We are what we are today, no amount of historic citation will change that.

can you show me the post where i did that? i am unaware of this

BD is a present part of the Mughal sultanat that came under Britsh invasion. do you have any doubt about that? as for Mughals, even the ruling class of the Mughal sultanat contained people of different backgrounds, and over successive generations, the lineage of the original Mughals that came with Babar became more and more diluted because of intermarriage with Persians, Arabs, Pathans, later-Turkic Mongolians, Hindus (for example between Rajputs and the upper echelon of Mughal ruling class), Buddhist, Jains, etc. BD as a community is descended from the Mughal sultanat. whether i get some self-worth out of it or not, these are the bare facts of history. if i don't even acknowledge this, i am denying the very history of not just BD but the entire subcontinent.

It is all relate, for a nepali, their biggest achievement is having relatively lighter skin,

However, different cultures have different criteria for achievement,

say for South India, it will be the cultural achievements, architectural wonders, political stability etc for more than 2000 years will be considered.
It is all relative, maybe BD want to associate with fair skin of their turkish or arabic brothers as their achievement..

Its all prespective...

some of these BAL leaning people are quite allergic to even acknowledge the history of the Muslim civilizations and empires of this part of the world. i would even be surprised if Calcutta Hindus or extremist Hindutva Indians were like that. i am definitely more so that some claiming to be Bangladeshis are like that. it would have been normal if they were simply unaware or out of touch with these historical facts. but that they are denying facts in the face amounts to trying to erase the history of the land. And there could be various reasons that they are uncomfortable with the history of the Muslim community. could one reason be that it is a continuing legacy of being under Hindu dominated society for a long time in colonial period? could another reason be these particular online members are not Bangladeshis or Muslims? could this underscore the view that BD leftists and their ideology are inherently anti-Muslim in a lot of different areas?

i don't think there is a more sadist member than you.

tell me the appearance of each BD member you mentioned.

and then tell me if you know about BD's history. and then tell me what bothers you about Turkics and Afghanis being a part of the Muslim lineage and culture in this part of the world
