This is going to be a long post. I request you to kindly go through the entire post. We were sitting in Physics canteen when Mr. Tarek Fateh arrived with his entourage. I recognised him as one of the TEDx Panjab University's speakers but I was not aware of his background or his forte. Suddenly we heard a commotion and realised that a fight has broken out.
Gagan went to see what all the fuss was about. My professor and I kept sitting in our places. When Gagan did not come back, I went to see for myself since we could still hear the loud abusive voice. When I went there a fellow research scholar from our department was being asked by Mr Tarek what his name is. He replied, "Mustafa." What happened next was shocking. Mr. Tarek said, "
Yes! You showed your true colours. You are a Pakistani, a Muslim terrorist." Another gentleman, whom I now know as Mr Harbir, started rejoicing and kept shouting jubilantly, "
Yes! yes! Yes! We proved it! We proved it!" On seeing this I immediately rushed to my professor to inform her that Mustafa was being targeted. Then I rushed back. By that time Gagan was already arguing with them. Mr Tarek was using abusive language and was shouting,
"Bastards! Ma**** (mother-fucker)! Behen**** (sister-fucker)!" When he learnt Gagan's full name (Gagandeep Singh Dhillon) he said, "
You Khalistani terrorist! Anti-Sikh! Bastard! Behen****!" I went up to him and told him that my name is Ganeshwari and asked him if it was okay. He said, "Yes! Your name is perfectly fine." I said, "Sir, you disgust me." Then I called Mustafa and Gagan near me and told Mr Tarek that this is a Muslim, this is a Sikh and I'm a Hindu. We don't care about religion or names. So stop preaching your hatred here. All the while he kept shouting, "
Bastards! Behen****! Ma****!" Then he instigated Gagan to slap him and said aloud, "Make a video. Take photos of these bastards." By that time our professor also came up and spoke against this hate politics. Amidst all the commotion, Mr Fateh and Mr Harbir escaped quietly.
