I hope for the sake of Srilanka and ALL its people, that I am wrong and that it is only an old wound that heals and not festers. Best wishes.

People on both sides need closure to move forward.. They need to know what happened to thier loved ones, they are all somebodies son, Daughter, Parent or sibling.. Which ever warring side they belonged to they were all Sri Lankan

Though i dont believe in retribution but this definitely need reconciliation.. If not festering wounds will start another conflict.. Human beings are not a species that easily forgets pain

I agree. I do not know if any of the Sri Lankan members here can understand Tamil (there are English parts esp when talking to Sinhala people)...but here are some videos where I could feel both the underlying pain that still exists....yet there is a real desire to move forward with reconciliation and closure. If there are any specific parts anyone wants me to translate, feel free to ask.

"Yal devi express train": Locos + rail reconstruction was provided by India. MR opted for Chinese coaches however. Local Tamil people are enjoying the connectivity to Colombo and Kandy once again. Everyone wants to move forward in this era of peace:

War site memorial: Some of the infrastructure, war material and weapons captured/recovered on display. It is to be noted the message boards are only in Sinhala and English (no Tamil). I think this should be addressed as Tamil people are now also wanting to move on. There is real sadness in the voice of Tamil guy explaining the Aircraft engine...but again a desire that such a war should never happen again and it is time for only peace and development in SL. Sinhala visitor shares the same sentiment in English at the end.

The old Yal devi was the train that traveled between the south and north until it was stopped after it was attacked.by the LTTE

This is a documentary about it and the driver who was driving it when it was attacked was interviewed

The new one travels the same route it traveled and it was named from it.
