I learnt to read tamil rather later than most so am not the right person to comment (though I could speak it from childhood). But in general you can learn tamil by watching movies. I would suggest Boss engira Bhaskaran for a start. It's hilerously funny and uses contemporary tamil.

Well since I had read tamil from childhood, it have never occured to me to learn through websites. I shall get back to you in easiest website for learning it.

In Sri Lanka, Tamil is taught as a secondary language for Sinhalese students at school. I thought of regaining it because I have forgot the most with the time.
