Tallest Buddha statue to be built on Bali, Indonesia

Maurya Dynasty united whole of India. Third Mauryan king Ashoka gave up violence and accepted Buddhism and started sending missionaries to spread teaching of Buddha.

Our national emblem is a Mauryan legacy.

What I meant is India as a political entity. Not historical India. Sorry I should have been more clearer on that.

"The country (varṣam) that lies north of the ocean and south of the snowy mountains is called Bharat(Bhāratam); there dwell the descendants of (King)Bharata."

greeks romans? any proof, greeks used for sindh and used india for indus river

the term india was used and popularised by the brits

Come out of Madarsa education and read some neutral sources. Here is the excerpts from the book Indica

Source

One of the oldest surviving foreign descriptions of India comes from the Greco-Roman biographer of Alexander the Great, Flavius Arrianus. He depended upon other Greek sources, such as Niarchus, which are now lost. His short book The Indica, dealt with the Voyage of Alexander's fleet from India to the Near East. Below is his general description of India.

Below are some quotes from the book. See the link for details.

This is his discription of people west of Indus. He also calls them Indians.
The regions beyond the river Indus on the west are inhabited, up to the river Kōphen, by two Indian tribes, the Astakenoi and the Assakenoi, who are not men of great stature like the Indians on the other side of the Indus, nor so brave, nor yet so swarthy as most Indians.

Than he talks about East of Indus
Now the countries which lie to the east of the Indus I take to be India Proper, and the people who inhabit them to be Indians. The northern boundaries of India so defined are formed by Mount Tauros, though the range does not retain that name in these parts.

On the west the boundaries of India are marked by the river Indus all the way to the great ocean into which it pours its waters, which it does by two mouths. These mouths are not close to each other, like the five mouths of the Ister (Danube), but diverge like those of the Nile, by which the Egyptian delta is formed. The Indus in like manner makes an Indian delta, which is not inferior in area to the Egyptian, and is called in the Indian tongue Pattala.a

I cannot be sure of the accuracy of any statements about the country beyond the river Hyphasis, because Alexander did not advance further than that river. Of the two largest rivers themselves, the Ganges and the Indus, Megasthenes has stated that the former excels much in size; and so say all other writers who mention it. He says that it rises great from its sources, and that it receives into itself the Cainas, the Erannoboas, and the Cossoanus, all navigable rivers; then the Sonus Sittocatis, and Solomatis, which are also navigable; and besides these the Condochates, Sambus, Magon, Agoranis, and Omalis. A great river the Comminases, and the Cacouthis and Andomatis, which flows from the land of the Madyandinians, an Indian nation, fall into it. In addition to these the Amystis joins the Ganges, near the city of Catadoupe, as do the Oxymagis in the land of the people called Pazalaeans, and the Errenysis in that of the Mathaeans, an Indian nation

Even he calls the different states that existed as Indian Nation. Goes to show that even if they were separate political entyty they were still Indian.

Yes you are right about modern India as a Geopolitical entity.

Back then India is a name given by the Greeks to called a place beyond the Indus river. I said Buddha was born in Nepal, because the location of which he was born.

Kapilvastu, the Birthplace of Buddha, is a border town which became part of Nepal only few centuries back. Native people in Kapilvastu are not ethnic Nepalese.

Buddhism is the heritage of both countries.

Yes India is the name of the place beyond Indus river. We are Republic of India. We inherit the legacy of that Ancient India.

Yes,Most scholars regard Kapilavastu, present-day Nepal, to be the birthplace of the Buddha.Other possibilities are Lumbini, present-day Nepal Kapileswara, Orissa, present-day India and Piprahwa, Uttar Pradesh, present-day India.Kapilavastu is the most reasonable choice considering the fact that that was the capital of the Kingdom his ancestors. Also note that his Kingdom later annexed by the growing Kingdom of Kosala during the Buddha's lifetime. So what ever the case,Most Indians like to consider Buddha as an Indian(Although, much to the annoyance of Nepalese).

Like I said earlier he was born in Nepal, so why you have to bring India into this?

Where do you think he became Gautam Buddha??.Prince Siddhartha Gautama was born in Nepal, but he attained enlightenment and founded Buddhism in India.

Look all I'm saying is Buddha was born in Nepal, I'm not saying anything about the condition of his Kingdom when he left his family to search for enlightenment.

Again I'm only saying the location of which he was born, not on the location on where he got his enlightenment.

I agreed with you that part. You might be right.Buddha's birth place might be in the present day Nepal.
