The tallest Buddha statue in Indonesia is currently being constructed in Gilimanuk, Jembrana, Bali. It is expected to become a new tourist attraction. Gilimanuk also hosts the ferry port that connects the western tip of the resort island with neighboring Java.

The 25-meter-high statue, which is costing over Rp 1 billion, is being built inside the Empu Astapaka monastery. It will be unveiled on June 6 this year.

The monastery was named after a Buddhist sage who visited Bali in the 15th century upon the request of the then Dalem Waturenggong, one of the greatest kings in ancient Bali. Astapaka’s uncle was Danghyang Nirartha, Waturenggong’s spiritual adviser and the founder of the Siwaistic Brahmin family of the island.

“This will be the largest Buddha statue in Indonesia,” said the chairman of Bali’s Indonesian Buddhist Theravada Council, Sudiarta Indrajaya, as quoted by metrobali.com.

“This will be a new icon for Bali as the ‘Island of Dharma’,” he added.

Please Consider Bali as your vacation destination for this year :cool:

Compare this with Pakistan, another Muslim majority country with strong cultural links with India, where the rabid population is protesting to even name a chowk after Bhagat Singh, a 'Hindu'.

Here is Indonesia, a modern country who comes and does beautiful things like these!

Bhagat SIngh was not a Hindu (he was a Sikh) and Pakistan has nothing to do with Indian Freedom Movement,History or anything. They are arabs.

lol, dude :rofl::rofl::rofl:

amazing

both ranjeet singh and bhagat sigh were from part of british empire which is modern day pakistan, so technically they were both pakistanis

Ironically, the Buddha was a very modest man.

Yet all the biggest statues in the world today are of the Buddha.

Largest statue in the world: Spring Temple Buddha in Henan province... 153 metres high.

very good point even though now the size of every structure has increased, the buildings are reaching for the skies and tall structures have become necessity, large sized mosques, large sized church and temples , no harm if buddhist celebrate their religion in such a manner

Taxila was in Gandhara. Taxila was the university where Great Chanakya studied.
