May be china isn't gonna back down unless it gets a deal done in the Kashmir region.It's not about galwan alone,
it's possible that China wants a deal done before the US makes India their occupied base .If India secedes galwan, China may claim more and more unless and until India agrees to a deal.It may be all about the all-encompassing deal for which China is pushing through,that deal or accord may eventually settle the discord between INDIA & China if it occurs .
Modi may be only sane person,even if instinctively, that wants a deal in midst of the rampant US installed rss politicians encouraging him to conflagrate the situation.

I don't believe china is doing all this over some small pieces of land or to achieve status quo anymore.
China don't care about if India fights,it seems China want a deal done about the Kashmir region before US and INDIA signs a military pact that enables US to station troops in India ,especially the ports. Indian political circle has been infiltrated by US puppets,they will eventually force the gov to sign such a pact. China likely realizes this and wants a deal done which would encompass various security issues.
