Taliban 'seize provincial HQ' in Afghan city of Kunduz

The Afghans are now understanding the concept of true despair and soon the voice of dissent will quieten against Pakistan.

.
then what was the excuse on Pakistan's part??was it Lack of Will power,or People's support towards TTP or something else that helped TTP to stay in Pakistan for so long??
We haven't lost any major city to them and from day one they are on run they have safe heaven provided to them by RAW and NDS in Afghanistan.

But still you can fund there Armory, the fact is that ANA mostly is under influence of war lords,Army men like col. Qalandri who dared to decline MD-550 helis are very rare.Taliban what you call them are all Afghan's.

Afghans don't think so,that ANA is under War Lords' influence..Mainly Pakistanis accuse this.

and ANAF isn't satisfied about MD-530,and they've rights to do so.They've little desire to keep these white elephants. They need proper gunships while USA is giving them platforms which has little or no use.

Yes,no major city, but a large chunk of NWFA was and possibly still is under their control.and TTP hides in the same hole which Af Taliban created in Afghanistan.Pakistan blame for not taking action against TTP,but ANA is weak and can't even protect themselves(according to Pakistanis). Then how come they expect ANA will push TTP back??

Dear kid I have met Afghan's,have gone there and know how things work in that society. It's better for you to engage me next time when you know about bitter Ground realities spread through out Afghanistan.

They cant maintain high end Gun ships that's why US isn't giving them, arrival of A-29 will improve situation for them a lot.

Thanks to nato and uncle sam trained afghan forces.

What a shame, for afghan gov and afghan army. Even reserve para military forces fight better than aghan army.
That's not a fair assessment. The Afghan army is a little more than a decade old, so it's not easy for them.

How are the Taliban projecting strength so far North and East of the country? This is a little troubling to say the least.

At least, Afghani officials won't claim that they were receiving support from FATA.

Still there in now NWFP.
I'm new here and i can not see what the members are posting and what i am posting but when someone is quoting someone's thread then i can see/read the quoted part and not the original comment...Can you help me out with this..

NWFP

even then Pakistan went ahead to sign "MOU" with NDS??

Post 2008 ,TTP were driven out of NWFP( now KPK) and were never able to take back Swat or Dir , they have no presence in kpk anymore.

They maintained presence in parts of FATA , mainly in NW ,SW and khyber-bajaur areas. But that too has changed after op ZEA and Khyber1 and 2 .Forget cities they no longer even hold villages in Pakistan. The last pocket of resistance is in the shawal forest , which will be taken after the current shawal offensive concludes.

Red, yellow, black, orange, blue ???????

And belated Eid mubarik bro. :)

Khair Mubark -- Aap ko bhi bohat mubarak ho.

let me add (rolls eyes to my last post) -- baaz nahin aana baaa bacon nain

@Imran Khan @pakistani342 @A-Team it looks like Talis have cultivated moles in Government.Taking a city is not a banana eating, they must have prepared it for months.100% chances of full local support and traitors among ANA ranks who supported them because they just stormed city and Government was caught is surprise. It will have catastrophes consequences if they form an alliance with ISIS because Deash has recruited many central Asian Guys to ME,in that case they will just Direct them to Afghanistan
And this capturing tactics in new for such groups i think they have got some adviser from ISIS.

So good point -- the first time I heard someone rail against moles was former professor of Afghan American University [arguably Afghanistan's most expensive and prestigious school], Nemat Sadat. Nemat is a bit controversial -- he's an LGBT activist which does not make him endearing to some people. As a comical side-note -- I've been accused by some staff members of Afghan American University of actually being Nemat Sadat, writing under the Pakistani342 pseudonym -- lol -- I guess I should be flattered. BTW, on a person to person conversation Nemat comes across very level headed as opposed to what you may read in his blog or in the media.

Anyhow Nemat had railed against ISI agents that supposedly permeate Afghan government structures -- Nemat does come from a distinguished Afghan family but still I didn't give it much credence. However since then a US based Afghan journalist actually gave credence to what Nemat had said and the Afghan media also have made similar claims. There was also a credible article a while back which interviewed returned Afghan refugees who claimed to be ISI agents but working in fields such as IT, etc. -- they were gloating that ISI's approach to Afghanistan has changed and now they use assets who are educated and part of the system. Again difficult to verify -- I just don't think ISI has the capacity to induct and maintain that many agents.

Now back to your other point -- even a temporary takeover (which I suspect this is) by the Taliban of Kunduz is extremely damaging politically -- or rather should be damaging. One can remember it took years before the Mujahideen captured any city of worth and were badly routed by the erstwhile Afghan communist forces. I am no military expert but I suspect the Taliban will soon withdraw or be driven out or a combination of the two.

However, the disturbing possibility is that the Afghan government has allowed Kunduz to fall to secure more international aid. @A-Team has said as much in his post and he's also alluded to a possible internal Afghan political struggle between the old Mujahideen guard and Ghani. If this is the case -- as an American taxpayer and citizen I would be dismayed as I think the US will fall into this Afghan trap to keep putting good money after bad and keeping sending her sons and daughters to bleed for something that is really a civil war. So I sure hope it is not true -- and if it is true, I hope that the US administration sees through this strategic retreat and does not continue to line the Afghan elite's pockets -- hope is not a policy but one can still hope, if in futility.

Now, did Kunduz really fall? -- it is possible but it is very difficult for a guerrilla force to hold territory and that too a major city like Kunduz -- Kunduz does sit on many ethnic fault lines though, kind of the way Iraq does, which is what ISIS essentially used as a wedge to start their territory grab in Iraq.

Hopefully the situation will become clearer in the next few days -- but whatever the reality is, I think there is a danger for multiple parties to miscalculate and hence I cannot think of a good outcome of whatever has happened.
