Taliban chief Mullah Omar treated in Pakistan: Report

WASHINGTON: The reclusive one-eyed chief of the Afghan Taliban Mullah Mohammed Omar was treated for a heart attack in Pakistan with the help of its intelligence service, the Washington Post reported Tuesday.
The spiritual leader of the insurgency, who went deep underground after the 2001 US-led invasion, suffered a heart attack on January 7 and was taken to a hospital near Karachi for several days, the Post said, citing a report by a private intelligence network run by former US security officials.
The network, operating as a private company known as “The Eclipse Group,” said its source was an unnamed physician in the hospital. “While I was not personally in the operating theater… my evaluation based on what I have heard and seeing the patient in the hospital is that Mullah Omar had a cardiac catheter complication resulting in either bleeding or a small cerebral vascular incident, or both,” the physician was quoted as saying.
The doctor added that Omar appeared to have suffered some brain damage and had slurred speech following the operation.
The report said Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency had “rushed him to a hospital in Karachi, where he was given heparin (an anticoagulant) and operated on.” “After 3-4 days of post-operative care in the hospital, he was released to the ISI and ordered to take absolute bed rest when at home for at least several days,” it added.

Official denial
Although Pakistan is officially an ally of the international coalition battling the Taliban in Afghanistan, US officials have long accused the ISI of playing a double game. Pakistan has always strongly denied such charges, and its Washington ambassador Husain Haqqani said the Eclipse report “had no basis whatsoever.”
“Sometimes intelligence tips received by professionals turn out to be wrong. The story about Mullah Omar falls under that category,” he told the Post.
The Post said Eclipse appeared to be “the latest iteration of a shadowy, Pentagon-backed operation that began contracting with former CIA and military operatives to supply intelligence in Afghanistan and Pakistan in 2009.”
The newspaper said it was run by a former chief of the Central Intelligence Agency’s counterterrorism center, a retired diplomat and a former US army Special Forces information operations specialist in Iraq.

they are even scared of their shadowz...:partay:

After i posted that thread the first man visited here was our fellow member Thomas....:D

Anyways....... seeing that Mullah Omer is not in the best of his health.Games can take a turn in Afghanistan.

Seems more of an Ethical issue to me......why did the Physician shared any such information in public?? Whether he was Mullah Omar or Omar khayam, you're not supposed to publicize it.Probably he's not the one who managed Mullah Omer.....Just saying "Hi" to his colleague in the OT :P and found ;"oh wow Mullah Omer is here".So, what he has got?......normal Chit chat stuff in OT....between a physician and surgeon operating.

.
This is published to give Pakistan a further bad name in the international community and to show the ISI as complicit in the protection of the Taliban.

. . .
The ISI have long played a double, two faced game. That is nothing new. All governments of Pakistan have openly said they look on the Taliban insurgents as a shadow militia to use in event of war with India.

Pakistan's ISI military elite does not ever want peace with India. They make fortunes out of playing all sides but only being paid by NATO of which the US is the largest "payer."

Taliban are the last people deserving ethical treatment or sympathy.

Actually we want peace with India thats why we are striving for a free and fair self-determination exercise in Kashmir, proposed by the UN Resolutions as a plebiscite.

It is India that keeps the hostilities up by enslaving the Kashmir population, till Kashmir is a disputed territory we are at a state of perpetual war - but this war will and always be of India's making. Don't confuse yourself in the now and your little war in Afghanistan.

Also, this is as good a report as the US bases in Afghanistan being used for raping little Afghan girls.

No verifiable sources
Doctor's name not given
Doctor was not even present in the OR
Doctor can't even say if it was a heart issue or a brain issue.

The only thing of interest here is the mentioning of the Eclipse group. If its real, another illegal outfit that has to be chased out of Pakistan.

it's very easy for outsiders who are not even informed of the regional conflicts (especially in historical context) to come barge in and provide elementary, superficial analyses based on over-used empty rhetoric commensurate to that which is found on cheap tabloids

... and hence the thread should be locked and binned just like the thread about those Afghan girl rapings.

For the sake of posterity, let it be recorded that:

Report about Omar?s surgery in Karachi denied | World | DAWN.COM

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani said on Wednesday the report that Taliban leader Mullah Omar had a heart surgery in Pakistan had “no basis whatsoever”.

“Sometimes intelligence tips received by professionals turn out to be wrong,” said the ambassador while commenting on a report circulated by a private intelligence agency. “The story about Mullah Omar falls under that category.”

Mr Haqqani recalled that in 2001 US intelligence sources reported that Osama bin Laden was receiving dialysis treatment in Pakistan but it turned out to be incorrect. “Such reports are fabricated by those who want to give Pakistan a bad name.”

The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that the Eclipse Group, which circulated the story, had run intelligence-gathering operations for the US government in Afghanistan.

Several prominent American and British newspapers – including the Post and The Telegraph, London – reproduced the story but they also quoted Afghan intelligence sources in Kabul as saying that they had no knowledge of the heart attack.

According to this report, Mullah Omar had a heart attack on Jan 7 and was treated for several days in Karachi.

A doctor at the hospital, which was not identified, said he saw Mullah Omar struggling to recover from an operation to put a stent — an artificial tube — in his heart.

He is now said to be at a safe-house run by ISI, in Karachi, the report claimed.

The Eclipse Group claimed that Mullah Omar was rushed to hospital by the ISI where he was given heparin, an anticoagulant, and operated on.

“While I was not personally in the operating theatre,” the doctor said, “my evaluation based on what I have heard and seeing the patient in the hospital is that Mullah Omar had a cardiac catheter complication resulting in either bleeding or a small cerebral vascular incident, or both. After the operation, there seemed to be some brain damage with Mullah Omar having slurred speech.”

In Pakistani slang, this is what we call a Bongi.
