Once one of Syria’s closest allies, Turkey is hosting an armed opposition group waging an insurgency against the government of President Bashar al-Assad, providing shelter to the commander and dozens of members of the group, the Free Syrian Army, and allowing them to orchestrate attacks across the border from inside a camp guarded by the Turkish military.

The support for the insurgents comes amid a broader Turkish campaign to undermine Mr. Assad’s government. Turkey is expected to impose sanctions soon on Syria, and it has deepened its support for an umbrella political opposition group known as the Syrian National Council, which announced its formation in Istanbul. But its harboring of leaders in the Free Syrian Army, a militia composed of defectors from the Syrian armed forces, may be its most striking challenge so far to Damascus.

On Wednesday, the group, living in a heavily guarded refugee camp in Turkey, claimed responsibility for killing nine Syrian soldiers, including one uniformed officer, in an attack in restive central Syria.

it's the new york times dude. it knows things before even americans know things about their country. they have an insider information/. breaking news track record- although they are not omipotent. Plus there has been a lot of talk from turkey about syria which supports the direction of the claim

right now we have more important things to handle than assad...

some reminders to you, earthquake! operation inside Iraq... ? why would Turkey care about Syria at this point when we have problems in our own country?!

why would turkey care- I dont know ask you erdgaon or whatever his name is. you can walk and chew gum I presume- thats why earthquakes ( dont know what that ref is about Iraq) can also be handled. plus giving shelter to militants may have been quietly ongoing prior to the earthquake. just that it leaked out now

Turkey Warns Syria to Stop Crackdown

Turkey warns of ?steps? if Syria continues crackdown on protests - Boston.com

BEIRUT - Turkey’s foreign minister demanded yesterday that the Syrian government end its crackdown on a five-month-old uprising “immediately and unconditionally,’’ warning that unspecified steps would be taken otherwise.

me personally, I think Turkiye is best served by remaining neutral on it;

the problem is that Syrian authorities and security forces seem to be taking a hardline approach towards Turkiye. They shifted forces near the border to prevent dissidents from crossing over. Turkiye's Kizilay organization is dealing with the refugees, it's having a cost on Turkiye so they do have ''say'' in this matter for sure.

the Syrian regime seems to be taking much ''fire'' (whether for public consumption or not, its irrelevant) from ally countries and foes alike.

they want Syrian land, actually reform is starting it's not helping when attacks on Syrian Soldiers happen from Turkey .

how is the reforms starting... all i hear is 34 shot dead in protests, 12 shot dead in clashes etc.

there isn't proof that they use Turkish soil to attack Syria. they dont even have that capacity. what are we going to do, arm them with 2-3 G3 rifles and send them to suicide missions?

it is actually the other way around, you have shot Syrian refugees in Lebanon!
