'Take full advantage': Prime Minister Imran calls on citizens to declare assets by June 30

The real money is made abroad. Expat Pakistanis should pay taxes as long as they carry a dual Nationality or single green passport. Kinda like the US system. You need to declare your income abroad.

If they don't pay. They are banned from ever visiting again. This was very common in the middle ages. Exile.

Ridiculous, do you even know what "income" tax means? Instead of giving them insentives you are talking about "income" tax on NRPs .

All NRPs are paying either way, withholding tax, GST, road, customs etc. Pakistan don't even have right to put any "income" tax on these guys

Prime Minister Imran Khan, in a televised addressed on Monday morning, called on citizens to declare their assets by June 30.

"I am appealing to all of you to take part in the Asset Declaration Scheme that we have brought, because if we don't pay taxes, we will not be able to raise our country up," the premier said, ahead of the federal budget for fiscal year 2019-20, which is scheduled to be announced tomorrow.

"We will need to change ourselves if we want to become a great country," Prime Minister Imran said.

The premier said that people had until June 30 declare their benami assets, benami bank accounts and money that was kept abroad.

"After June 30, you will not get this opportunity," he said.

"Remember our government today has that information which no government before had."

He added that they had made agreements and were receiving information from abroad about properties and bank accounts of Pakistanis.

"Our agencies have information about who has benami accounts and benami properties," the premier said, adding that: "This was never available to us before therefore take advantage of this scheme. Give Pakistan the benefit. Fix your children's future. [Give us] the chance that we get this country to stand on its own two feet and take people out of poverty."

"Take full advantage of this scheme," he said.

This is the second time that the premier has appealed to the people to declare their benami assets and bank accounts under the government's Assets Declaration Scheme by June 30.

At the start of his address today, Prime Minister Imran said: "My Pakistanis, in the past ten years Pakistan's debt went from Rs6,000 billion to Rs30,000 billion."

He said that the damage that this had caused to the country was that the annual tax collected was approximately Rs4,000 billion, half of which went towards repaying loans "they" had taken.

"This country cannot cover its expenses on the money that is left behind," he added.

"Pakistan is the country that unfortunately gives the least tax in the world but is among the few countries that give the most charity."

"This is the country that has [the] capability and if passion comes in, we can at the very least gather Rs10,000 billion every year," the premier said before appealing to the Pakistani people to take part in the Asset Declaration Scheme.

In May, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government had announced its first tax amnesty scheme — Asset Declaration Scheme — for whitening of undisclosed expenditures, sales and assets, including foreign assets, at nominal tax rates.

The scheme came into effect through a presidential ordinance, which will offer a period of 45 days to people for declaration of their undeclared assets, expenditures, and sales along with payment of taxes until June 30 this year.

The scheme, approved by the federal cabinet during a meeting presided over by the premier, has five main pillars — scope, default surcharge, exclusions, tax rates and conditions.

Unlike past schemes no revenue realisation projection was made on the plea that it is meant for allowing the grey economy’s inclusion in the tax net.

The government plans to present an austerity-oriented budget tomorrow providing a ‘slight’ relief to middle and low grade government employees, including military personnel, with no increase in the salaries of army officials of higher ranks.

This was said by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan at a joint news conference with SAPM on Accountability Shahzad Akbar on Sunday.

These stupid schemes are just to fool Pakistanis. Every Pakistani pay taxes, while buying property within Pakistan, or earnings to legal means,. There is always some tax one way or another. At the end government's and state bank's have all the records of money, there are records of the property purchases and other commodities purchases. But government don't keep check for a reason. There are black sheep's like politicians, bureaucrats, and even establishment want to avoid that trackability for obvious reasons.

These amnesty schemes are only declared to secure their fellows black/corruption money or sometimes hurt common people more by saying we gave you chance. Keep in mind, once they start using sticks only common Pakistanis will suffer further. Big fishes will always be secured by their masters.

My gut feelings are that IK regime is on the path to making lives of the proxy traitor politicians, media, businesses etc. and their supporters lives into hell via this tax regime!!! Remember Al Capone got undone via a tax mischief!!! If you want to rope in crooks find an astute accountant!!! I think Pak’s new tax boss is an accountant by profession....

i dont know what to think.. all our previous taxes have been stolen. what is the credibility of khan sahab?
i dont feel like helping him here.. he should bring millions from big theives ..
we cant be always the fodder
We don't have to go far just look at India, the worst sort of corrupt politicians exist there and there is no check and balance there. Corruption is not the topic of the media houses not judiciary or nab is active etc..and everyone opposition and government both do favourable deals and corruption etc.
But people pay taxes and their country is running smoothly.
We don't like it but people have to pay taxes if they want to move forward, Pakistan is struck still and is not moving forward.
Look there are big stores and none pay the taxes. Look when we buy gold we get a recipiet but no one pay any tax on it.
Jungle ka qanoon nhn chal sakta..

negative. I own multiple properties in the u.s. and have declared them AGES ago along with all the closing paperwork to show the money trail. The Government isn't demanding taxes on your foreign assets, just that you have them and earned them the legal way, that's all. If I can do it, so can others.

Agreed. Many journalists in the know have said that these people have actually started returning the cash but quietly. The government is also keeping it quiet for some reason, but explains why they are taking their sweet ol' time in finalizing anything with the imf. Lots of unanswered questions but one potential answer that I have heard rumors of in some reliable circles is that with the recovered money, high tech weaponry en mass is being quietly purchased to put the niggas err...I mean neighbors to the east outta their misery once and for all. who knows...

If you are earning an income from those foreign assets, surely they ask you to pay tax on that?

Well yes and no. Gross income minus expenses and then pay taxes on the balance that is the net income. This is besides property tax. If I had profit then I pay taxes on that profit. But I pay those taxes here in the u.s. I also own properties in Pakistan and yes, I do file and pay my share of that tax from rental income besides property tax.

SBP blatantly denied FBR access to all bank accounts over 5 lakh on pressure of commercial banks .

SBP didn't blatantly deny access, they simply informed FBR that SBP doesn't posses such information and it is the commercial banks that should be approached for this information, in addition SBP also mentioned that Income Tax laws provide that FBR can request this information directly from commercial banks.

Amnesty or no amnesty whichever and whatever government, khan niazi, sharif or khalifa ........ anyone who thinks that he can remain part of undocumented economy forever .... is mistaken. It's not the type writer age, Pakistan has tax treaties and understanding with other countries .... we don't live on Mars we have to upgrade and with newer technology it would be very hard to conceal any income or source of income.
