Taiwan has great semiconductor technology. However, in the memory market, Taiwan lacks the economic scale to compete effectively against Samsung, SK Hynix (South Korean), and Micron (US).

DDR4 DRAM technology is the latest RAM technology.

"DDR4 is the best mainstream generation of DRAM technology, with new features centered on power savings, performance enhancement, manufacturability, and reliability improvements. These new features improve performance, power, manufacturability, reliability and stacking capabilities for the enterprise, cloud, ultrathin, tablet, automotive and embedded markets. With data rates up to 3200 MT/s, an operating voltage of 1.2v and additional power saving features; DDR4 increases performance up to 50% while delivering total energy savings as high as 25% compared to DDR3."

We know the Chinese government is keen on developing its own indigenous computer memory-chip manufacturers. Taiwan's Nanya would be a perfect partner for the Chinese government-backed Tsinghua Unigroup. A potential 51/49 joint-venture would see Taiwan's Nanya (the minority partner) supply its 20nm 8GB DDR4 DRAM technology to benefit from China's massive domestic market. That is how Taiwan's Nanya can achieve comparable economic scale to compete with Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron.

Currently, this makes them, along with Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron, one of the few companies with the capacity to manufacture DDR4 DRAM using a 20nm process.

Nanya stated that through the use of stacked packaging technology, the 8GB DDR 4 DRAM memory modules can be increased to capacities of 16GB and 32GB in order to satisfy the requirements of personal computer and server markets. Hence this is a major breakthrough in the development of Taiwanese DRAM."

I'm making the point that China can always partner with Taiwan's Nanya Technology to produce almost-state-of-the-art 20nm DRAM memory chips.

That's i always say China has powerful engines :lol:, TW as the chip powerhouse, HK as the Financial Center in Asia. Many Taiwanese business are located in Mainland :enjoy:. India has nothing

TRUTH is Taiwanese made contributions to China's rise as well and this shall continue. Only complete fools and idiots believe that nonsense. China is not only a tech powerhouse it has assistance from this gigantic chip powerhouse. Together we will emerge HUGE in the future. South Korea is feeling the heat from the Dragon's breath.

At the end of the day, as a Taiwan resident, I would rather see the entire US burnt down rather than seeing a single town in Mainland China to experience difficulty.

This is the level of our sympathy for all that the US has done for us.

It does matter. Or everyone would still be using 28 nm for logic chips. But almost all vendors want to be at the forefront of tech, specially in their premiere models. So they all compete for pushing the envelope.

No. It doesn't matter. The difference between 20nm and 10nm is marginal (only "a 30% productivity gain").

My new computer uses DDR4 20nm DRAM. There was no need to pay a premium for 10nm DRAM.

If I want more memory, I buy more 20nm DRAM at a reasonable price. 10nm is sought by cutting-edge buyers who are willing to pay a premium. That is not the BULK of the market.

Not true. Taiwanese Government routinely blocks engagement of Chinese firms for leading edge technology. Chinese investments in MediaTek were disallowed.

Yes, but the bulk of the market soon moves towards higher technology.

And the leading edge technology has higher profit margins which can be reinvested back to develop technology.
