Congratulations to our Taiwanese bros for taking their defense seriously. An upgraded pier and airstrip will allow the ROC armed forces to deploy assets that will be sure to frighten any Viet banana boat within hundreds of miles. Perhaps the day is not too far off that the PLA and ROCA can develop a joint SCS base. A veritable unsinkable aircraft carrier aimed at the heart of Vietnam.

TAIPEI, Nov 5 ― Taiwan plans to spend over US$100 million (RM355 million) to build new maritime facilities for warships and supply vessels on Taiping Island in the disputed Spratlys in the South China Sea.

The new spending package by Taiwanese Coast Guard Administration was announced by a Taiwanese legislator in parliament Tuesday. The projected cost is expected to be NT$3.4 billion. The expenditures are expected be approved.

If completed on schedule, the new pier would be completed sometime in 2016. The current dock can only support small motorboats, however the new one should be able to dock military supply ships and frigates. The current airstrip on the island could also be included in the upgrade scheme as well.

Vietnam, which also includes the Spratlys in their territorial claims is protesting the decision because it means the personnel that Taiwan sends to man the island will likely rise from its current 100 now. Mainland China also makes claim to the archipelago, however it has yet to weigh in on the matter as of this report. ― Reuters

Somehow I am a bit worried about incoming election in taiwan, the chance of green camp to gain upper hands is quite high (seriously KMT need more young talents), wouldnt be suprised to see them changing the course for foreign support for their goal of "independence", how could such groups which are denying national identity even be allowed to participate in the national election is beyond me.

I hope you are right, recently I have watched some reports on Phoenix TV, the KMT taipei mayoral candidate seems to be really stupid(I am sorry but there is no better description) in the way he looks/speaks, I dont know what to believe if KMT lose even race in Taipei, if I am one of the silent voters I will certainly not vote someone who appear to be slow and stupid...Seriously what is KMT thinking of such an important race, are they already that desperate?
