China can support a coup d'etat and then mobilize Chinese troops to Taiwan for peace keeping. It is China's territory as agreed by every countries, so there should be no legality issue, except some blah blah from the US and its allies, as usual, but no one would dare to oppose it by force.
When I was in Taiwan 20 years ago, I thought people here did not support unification from what I observed but probably the mentality of many people have changed.
