What's new

Taiwan ranks No. 13 in the world's strongest militaries: Credit Suisse

By all counts, it is rather Russia and China that is overrated, because this methodology gives weightage to only numbers not quality, and no one in their right mind can deny the very significant qualitative, and technological edge that the US and Western weapons manufacturers still enjoy.

Example, China gets a greater score in submarines than Japan!

That should be hilarious. Japan has far better subs than China has, perhaps in limited quantities.

LOL.. by your own logic isn‘t India the most overrated of all? All India has is number,we both know how Indians suck at war.

And which places should Russia and China be if they are overrated?Let‘s hear it, military expert.:D

India's case is complicated. It's old equipment, primarily Russian is largely quantity related.

But the recent additions are top notch equipment, force multipliers.

India has almost 400 4.5 gen fighters and and strongest navy in south asia

Nobody knows how good Japanese subs are except from Japanese propaganda since they have never seen combat.

Japan and the west are usually much better at transparency, even in their military. Also, one big benefit that should not be underestimated is the merger of US, Europe and Japanese military industries.

Hence, the western companies are able to gain a market of the whole west, and enjoy bigger markets, bigger funding etc.

Finally, Japan is highly known for a culture of perfection, even within your own country. That culture transmits throughout industries including defense.

That explains why Vietnam has a long history of being colonized :agree:

Not really. One thing for sure is that Vietnamese are hard headed, and ready to take on even the biggest power single handedly. Perhaps that makes them a target.

Compare that to Thailand, who is very good at being friendly with the powers, especially the ones who can invade them.

They are actually known for shame culture and coverup culture, which is why Fukushima happened.

Lol@ these lists.

Yes, nations with high rankings who have never fought a conflict in their modern histories, whatever will they think of next. The Global Firepower one is about the worst going.

.
These lists are generally biased and BS. They base their rankings purely on quanitity.

Umm.... And this is coming from you? Seriously??

Do you see how China tried covering up multiple accidents? Also, Japan's media receives no orders from the government, though there may be some collusion.

China has state owned, regulated and censored media, as well social media, which gives government and CCP a free reign in blocking information if it chooses to do so.

This kind of parochial thinking is so regressive, and would be against your country's best interests.

As I say, and I repeat, Japan has the advantage of:
  1. A culture of precision and quality, (something well recognized by Chinese themselves who flock to buy western or Japanese brands and products for their quality)
  2. Access to the US, European markets and expertise.
  3. Benefit of time. Japan has been a technology innovator for far too long, and even leads in some fundamental things used in defense technology like carbon fibres etc.

South Korea alone has over 2000 active 3rd generation tanks.

How many active 3rd generation tanks do the entire West Europe have?

Excuse me but the ancient M48's and older K1 models can hardly be considered third generation.

.
wow! thailand and poland are more powerfull than germany and canada:undecided:

Result of numbers.

Also, what these rankings don't count is the capacity to scale up.

Many European countries have very low defense budgets. They can easily scale up if they wanted to do so, if they perceive a tangible threat arising anytime soon.

The GDP of Europe is equivalent to that of US, and can easily form a united army of the scale and sophistication of US if the need arises.
