What's new

Taiwan president-elect calls for freedom of navigation in South China Sea

yup. The part people of HK don't like is the CPC going back on the terms of agreement. The Taiwanese see that and know that CPC is not to be trusted, so have started anti CHina

There's no agreement with Hong Kong. There was an agreement with Britain which was vaguely worded. Different interpretations. You seem to have the misconception that China negotiates with HK. Nobody negotiates with a colony.

Funny thing is, the only reason that Taiwan is even able to think it is independent was due to the backstabbing of the KMT. If they did not backstab the CPC in 1920's then CPC might have remained a local Shanghai party and if they did not backstab the CPC post WW2 and agreed to elections, the CPC might have been a national party of the ROC. Instead they made 2 fateful choices to resort to force, and the result is here today.

Ahahahahahah............nice story Mr. Diplomat.
However, as i said before Geo political realities are always different from dreams/wishful thinking. Just because a few of us might wish for world peace and unity doesn't means that will ever happen. lol Same as i will like to see Russia being part of the E.U/NATO(it came close to joining after the fall of the Soviet Union) so we can all live happily ever after in unity and stability. However, i know that is just wishful thinking/dream. lol Reality is always harsh/different.:yes4: Unfortunately, humans are competitive by nature.:raise:

World peace is not possible, improbable. East Asian containment is, however, a strategy employed by the United States, my friend. The reason for this is because East Asia, when she is united, and trust me she will be , shall eclipse any supraregional power(s). I suppose it is hard to understand for you, as a British man, who understands policy processes in the decades context. But in the case of Japan , China; Korea --- as millennial civilizations --- we can wait. Afterall, before America was even conceived in thought, there already was trade and cooperation between Nihon, Joseon, and Zhonguo.

My, English friend.... :)

Tho i understand why you would want to see East Asia remain bitterly divided. The West has always feared and envied the East Asian World.

With the collective intelligence of the region, i suppose it is understandable why the West is intimidated by the East Asian Race, and East Asian Economic Power. (Afterall, the combined economies of China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan --- makes the region the richest in the world). :)

:coffee: Not very a bright lady. She has hardly warm her chair and she is making silly statement without thinking.

Those are not even the top priorities at this moment.

:( I dread to think of Taiwan's future at this point.

She has so much to learn. Compare her to South Korean President Park, she is simply nowhere at this point.

What a pity? IMO Many Taiwanese may be thinking or opts to migrate.

 Are you congratulating her because you think the uniformed pirates currently operating your patrol boats can now shoot at more Taiwanese Fishing Boats and you think this Madam President will be too weak to respond.

What did you expect from a female leader... look at Merkel, Mrs. Clinton.

LOL, would you rather have Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump? LOL!!!!!

Unfortunately, humans are competitive by nature

Some humans / civilizations are more competitive than others. More socially, historically, and culturally stable , harmonious. I suppose Greater East Asia and East Asians, in general, can boast and be proud of our relatively stable civilizations. Which have endured tests upon tests. We remain relatively successful and relatively .... homogeneous. :)

None of them. If i am an American i would pack my bags and migrate to Canada or New Zealand instead xD

Like if Cholera or Plague come to your town then fckng leave it!

No money in Canada, too much taxes, lol.

Do as i do, work in America, but maintain citizenship in East Asia. Buy property / invest in back home. ;)

Or i hear Australia is a great place to buy real estate nowadays, too..lol!

This Indian-American guy @Tiger Genie don't know China and cheers according to their brainwashing medias. Suggest him to live respectively one year in China mainland, one year in Hongkong city, one year in Taiwan province. He will realize Hongkong discriminate against Indian strongest, Taiwan discriminate against Indian stronger, China mainland do that fewest. The poor guys don't know what he is cheering.

You have to let DPP live a couple of years in their "honeymoon" after the election before unfolding their nightmare
"置于死地而后生" - sounds horrying but that is the way things go in respect of Taiwan's oppositions

if they discriminate that is wrong, but that has NOTHING to do with Taiwanese people summarily rejecting China.

I said they are waiting for next Hindus collapse. Now India is a super power, Allah cheers prefer to hide, understand their doctrine?
You are joking me. Chinese democracy is better than Indian democracy. For example, our democracy allow both communism and capitalism exist, your democracy only allow capitalism exists.

Now why would you insult 'Allah cheers'? They are called muslims and I have told you in plain English that muslims do not hide in India. They practice 'allah cheers' as you call it, openly. But I do understand that some Chinese are incapable of understanding the concept of diversity. Indians view diversity as a strength.

Your point about capitalism and communism is interesting. So you are now prepared to admit openly that Chinese communism has failed and that capitalism is therefore ok? Good

and when you admit it is a question of 'interpretations' of 'vague language', obviously the other party has as much credibility as you to interpret as well. And they have interpreted it and hence the objection to China.

BTW what do you think of my profile picture? recognize it?

Taiwanese are ethnic Chinese and we have the same culture, same language, almost same everything, blood is thicker than water, they know where they will draw the line.

Taiwanese are disconnected from mainland China for over three generations, they developed own culture and identity over 60 years, Taiwanese culture has influence of Japanese too such as food...

We speak Chinese, celebrate exactly every Chinese custom, traditional holiday, superstition...we are 99% the same. I have some Taiwanese colleagues and I didn't know they were Taiwanese before they told me that.

Most Taiwanese moive stars and singers are based in China, most Chinese people don't even know that those celebrities are Taiwanese

the other party is Britain and they have remained silent. Hong Kong is not the party. They can object all they want but for the purposes of the agreement they have no more say than Zimbabwe.

It was a three way influence , my friend. Japan influenced China through Taiwan, Taiwan influenced China, and Japan was influenced by China through Taiwan. Taiwan ever was the coronary artery where Japan reached the Chinese Heart.

Its a special relationship.

It was a one way influence, China influence Japan through Korea, this was history! You guys like to create history, what about exchanging location of Japan and Hawaii thousand of years ago?

I would say South Asia, Persia, Thailand in ancient had influences to China, such as Buddhism, Persian calendar, Thailand rice and taro, but I can't remind one thing came from Japan.
