Their choice of name, however, is being looked at askance by some on social media. Twitter has assumed that the littlest Khan has been called Taimur in honour of Timur or Tamarlane, the Central Asian invader who sacked Delhi in 1398. The verdict online - Taimur is an inappropriate name. Baby arrived early morning in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital. A statement released on behalf of the new parents read: "We are very pleased to share with you all the wonderful news about the birth of our son: Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi, on the 20th of December 2016. We would like to thank the media for the understanding and support they have given us over the last 9 months, and of course especially our fans and well wishers for their continued affection. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all." Twitter is mostly fixated on the name.

This is the first child for Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, who married in 2012. They began dating after making 2008 movie Tashan and have since co-starred in Kurbaan and Agent Vinod. Saif Ali Khan, who is divorced from actress Amrita Singh, also has a daughter named Sara and son named Ibrahim.
Kareena, who has been cast in Veere Di Wedding with actresses Sonam Kapoor and Swara Bhaskar, will return to work in a while. She was last seen in this year's Udta Punjab and had a role in Salman Khan's 2015 blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The first trailer of Saif Ali Khan's next film Rangoon is expected later this month. People started criticising Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan for naming their baby Taimur after ruthless killer Timur.
Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan were blessed with a baby boy on Tuesday and the couple named their first child Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi. While fans and other celebs of the industry have been congratulating Saif and Kareena, looks like the baby's name has already created a controversy.
As soon as Saif and his wife Kareena announced the name of their baby boy as Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi, a series of tweets started pouring in, expressing shock at the name. The name Taimur reminded people of one of the cruelest rulers, Timur, who was the man behind the Hindu genocide in India in 1399 AD.
Turko-Mongol ruler Timur had invaded India and caused a massacre on Hindus in the country. His soldiers had killed thousands of Hindus, including children and women, looted their wealth, enslaved hundreds of them and raped Hindu women. Timur was known for his hunger for power and his ruthlessness.
Now, Saif and Kareena naming their son as Taimur has upset many. Several people have been expressing shock at the star couple naming their first baby after the ruthless murderer.
"I am astounded. How on earth would any Indian name their son 'Timur' or 'Taimur' the man who committed a genocide of Hindus and Muslims of India, who built pyramids of human skulls across India. And this is the supposed 'Muslim royalty' of Hindustan? For Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor to name their son 'Taimur' is evidence of utter ignorance or an arrogant embrace of the crimes committed by those who invaded and plundered Hindustan. What a fall, from Tagore to Timur," columnist Tarek Fatah posted on Facebbok.

- Taimur or Timur was a Turko-Mongol conquerer who brought most of the Muslim-ruled parts of Central Asia and India under his control in the 14th century.
- Timur was the founder of the Timurid Empire and Timurid dynasty which survived until 1857.
- Timur means iron. He was born in 1336 in a Persian city, now known as Shahrisabz and is situated in modern day Uzbekistan.
- Timur came to be widely known as Tamerlane, the European derivation of his Persian nickname Timur-e-Lang that translates to Timur the Lame.
- Tamerlane's tomb excavation by Russian archeologists confirmed that he had two fingers missing from his right hand.
