LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan said on Monday there is no question of the country not playing in the World T20 but a written assurance of the players’ security by a senior Indian official is needed in order to give a final go ahead for the team’s departure.

Speaking to media representatives here, he said Pakistan would not send its team to participate in the tournament until a senior functionary of the Indian government gives a written assurance of complete and satisfactory provision of security to the Pakistani players and team management.

Khan welcomed the decision, announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC), to relocate the match between India and Pakistan from Dharamsala to Kolkata.

“We welcome the decision for moving the match from Dharamsala to Kolkata. There were pressure on us and there was a public opinion to ask ICC to shift the match from Dharamsala. So, it is a welcome step by ICC and BCCI,” the PCB chief said in a press briefing.

However, Shahryar added both men and women teams´ departure for India has been delayed and the teams will not be sent unless security of players is completely assured.

“The PCB has also today conveyed to ICC and BCCI that our government is expecting an assurance to Pakistan against specific threats to the Pakistan team from various political parties and groups during the tour. Pending this assurance and in accordance with the recommendation by the Security delegation, the PCB has decided to defer the departure of Pakistan men and women teams to India,” he added.

Khan had said on Tuesday that due to security concerns at Dharamsala other venues needed to be considered. ICC chief executive David Richardson said at a press conference earlier today that Pakistan-India match would now be held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

“I have written to (ICC chairman Shashank Manohar) that if you want us to play somewhere else because of issues at Dharamsala we are willing to consider that,” the PCB chief had said.

“We have never refused to play.”

Khan said security was the responsibility of state governments in India with the central government unwilling to direct their state counterparts on what to do.

Virbhadra Singh, chief minister of the state government of Himachal Pradesh, where Dharamsala is located, told local media earlier this month there were concerns over whether they could provide adequate security for Pakistan´s team in Dharamsala.

Indian war veterans in Himachal Pradesh opposed hosting the Pakistan cricket team in Dharamsala.

The situation led Pakistan to send a delegation to review security at the northern Indian town, while delaying the departure of their men´s and women´s cricket teams.

"Safety and security of the event is of paramount importance to the ICC," the organisation´s chief executive David Richardson told reporters earlier today.

"It was a difficult decision."

Pakistan open their tournament on March 16 against a qualifying team in Kolkata before their match with India. They then face New Zealand on March 22 and Australia on March 25, with both of those matches in Mohali.

The tournament opened on Tuesday with qualifying matches before the main draw begins on March 15. The final will be held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 3.

Just a face saving exercise after no one gave two hoots about the earlier boycott threat. One can easily predict the outcome of this security assessment by Pak security team. They will report back saying India has made adequate security arrangements for Pak team...& it's safe for the team to visit India...& Pak cricket team will show up on time!

where are you and those who gave thanks to you ? It seem your assessment went wrong :D

Ugra: Indian politics to blame for game moving
The PCB's decision to defer the departure of its men's and women's teams to the World T20 in India pending "an assurance against specific threats to the Pakistan team from various political parties and groups during the tour", is the end result of months of dissatisfaction over handling of India-Pakistan cricket ties in India.

The PCB's announcement came shortly after the ICC had conveyed its decision to shift the March 19 World T20 fixture between India and Pakistan from Dharamsala to Kolkata. The change of venue was expected to bring the controversy surrounding the match to an end; the PCB, however, said its teams would not travel unless they were given high-level assurances from India, following an adverse report by its security team which visited Dharamsala and New Delhi over the weekend. The three-man committee which assessed the security situation in Dharamsala described it as 'unsatisfactory.'

The delay of the Pakistani teams' departures is not a trigger-happy response by the PCB to events of the last 24 hours. It has built up over several months, and reached tipping point when a scheduled meeting in October between the PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan and BCCI officials was cancelled due to anti-Pakistan protests in the BCCI's Mumbai office. These talks had been arranged to discuss the possibility of a long overdue bilateral series, to be hosted by the PCB. Workers from the Shiv Sena, a regional political party, stormed into the BCCI office in Mumbai, shouting anti-Pakistan slogans. It led to an embarrassing departure for the Pakistani delegation led by Shahryar.

The incident led to the PCB losing confidence in BCCI's handling of what is always a delicate situation as well as public support against pushing for matches versus India. It made headlines in Pakistan, with the PCB being severely criticised by political and cricketing quarters. Taking note of the fiasco, the Pakistan government asked the PCB to adopt caution in travelling to India and to do so only after a favourable prior advisory from the centre. In the case of the World T20, neither India's central government in New Delhi nor the Himachal Pradesh state government were able to give any clear assurances about the security that would be put into place for the Pakistan teams.

The state government of Himachal Pradesh in fact categorically refused to assure full-fledged security to the Pakistan team in Dharamsala, citing protests by ex-servicemen's families following incidents along the border. Following that, the Pakistan security delegation's visit did not appear to be taken seriously by the Indian government either.

While the ICC had indirectly assured the PCB of full security, it was not accepted because the only direct word from any government in India had come from the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, about being unable to protect the team. When the delegation got to Dharamsala, no security plan was presented to them and they had to insist on a meeting with the deputy police commissioner of the region. There, it is learnt, the delegation found that the deputy commissioner did not have any special instructions from the home minister around security for the Pakistan team.

In Delhi, no attempts appeared to have been made by the BCCI to arrange meetings with senior authorities in the central government. The Pakistan delegation spent two days in the Indian capital but were unsuccessful in attempting to establish contact with the Home Ministry to set up a meeting with the Home Minister.

These incidents have further soured cricketing relations between the two countries. The PCB's last two major dealings with the BCCI have been unsatisfactory and led to increasing mistrust. Towards the end of 2015, there was a lack of clarity over playing the bilateral series, with the series abandoned and the BCCI not responding to communiqués from the PCB. India's silent ditching of the bilaterial series, the PCB say had cost them US$40m.

The list of Pakistan's disenchantment over cricketing relations with India stretches back beyond cricket over almost a year. The Shiv Sena's protest in the BCCI office was preceded by the cancellation of concerts in India by two Pakistani singers, Atif Aslam and Ghulam Ali, in April and October 2015. A launch of a book written by former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, also in October, was disrupted by right-wing activists attacking one of the organisers with black ink. After more Shiv Sena protests, which occurred during South Africa's tour of India, Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar and commentators Shoaib Akhtar and Wasim Akram did not travel to Mumbai for an ODI and left the country instead.

All of these events have led the PCB to be more stringent about its security demands on the BCCI and the ICC about the World T20. In such a scenario, if these demands are not met, there is every possibility the PCB may consider pulling both squads out of the tournament.

India vs Pakistan: After venue shift, ICC World Twenty20 match in fresh trouble

New Delhi: Even after the change in the venue of the 2016 ICC World Twenty20's India-Pakistan fixture, a fresh trouble emerges for the organisers of the event.
According to media reports, Anti-Terrorist Front of India (ATFI) , which has been stridently opposing the Pakistan cricket team playing in India, on Wednesday threatened to dig up the pitch at Eden Gardens.
Yesterday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) finally accepted a request from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and moved the March 19 match at Kolkata's Eden Gardens.

The ATFI has been opposing hosting of the Pakistan team until the terror masterminds behind the Mumbai, Pathankot and the recent Pampore attacks are handed to India by Pakistan.
ICC CEO Dave Richardson told reporters in Delhi: "We have taken the decision after consulting with our security officers. We are responsible for the security of teams. Their safety is of prime concern."

However, ATFI has threatened to conduct protests and dig up the pitch.

"Hosting of Pakistan in India is a grave insult to all our brave soldiers who were martyred in these attacks. We will not allow the match at any cost, we will dig up the Eden pitch, there will be massive protests," ATFI national president Viresh Shandilya told IANS.

"The ATFI now is holding a meet to decide our course of action. How can the Indian cricket board be insensitive to undermine the tears of widows of our martyrs? We will hold protests across Kolkata including the airport," he added.

The organisation had earlier also threatened to dig up the pitch at the HPCA stadium in Dharamshala which was scheduled to host the March 19 India-Pakistan match.

Pakistan have made another dramatic U-turn after the government gave the nod for the team to travel to India for the ICC World Twenty20. Pakistan had been demanding a written assurance about security arrangements from the Indian government.

However, when that did not come through, thegovenrment allowed the team to travel to India tomorrow. But less than two hours later, the Pakistanis went back to their original demand as Interior Minister Chaudry Nissar Ali Khan said the team would not travel unless the Indians gave them a written guarantee.

"Till we get a public assurance from the Indian government about the security of our players, we will not let our team travel to India," Khan said.

This has created a complex situation because Minister of State for Home AffairsKiren Rijijuspecifically told India Today that the Indian government could not address concerns for specific countries.(Also read:Uncertainty continues over Pakistan's participation in ICC World Twenty20)

Pakistan Cricket Board had wanted their match against India shifted out of Dharamsala. The ICC and BCCI, after much deliberation, moved the marquee clash to Kolkata. But that has not yet appeased Pakistan, who are adamant on extracting more commitments from India.

"Pakistan should be satisfied with our level of commitment. Advisories to all police forces have been placed on record," Rijiju said.(Also read:Pakistani fans in race against time for visas after change in World T20 venue)

The Indian minister said he would not comment on Pakistan's demand for a written assurance.

"I will not comment on what Pakistan has said or talk of specific commitments to any country. I cannot specify my comment to any one country.

"Security will be provided as per need. If the Pakistan cricket team deserves special security, they will be provided with that," Rijiju said.

PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan briefed the team players and officials in Lahore today and was hopeful the Indian government will publicly guarantee the Pakistan team's safety during the tournament. Pakistan play their first match in the World T20 on Wednesday and they have two warm-up matches lined up before that. Pakistan play Bengal on Saturday before facing Sri Lanka on Monday.

"But Pakistan can forget about written assurances from India. "We have to provide security for everyone. For international events, it is our sovereign duty to provide security to any country including Pakistan," Rijiju said.

Pakistan in another U-turn, refuse to fly to India after government nod

Indias stand is that if you want to play , come and play . we will give you the same security that we are giving to Afghanistan or Bangladesh. Nothing more nothing less.

If you want more security....you can bring few from pakistan.

India census exposes extent of poverty
(there are some good people too but they are really really rare)

Is Coach Hathurusingha smelling any rats ?

Cricinfo reports……"If they have a concern about my bowlers, I have a concern about their [ICC's] actions as well," Hathurusingha said. "I don't see anything wrong. They have bowled the same way as the last 12 months”---- indicating those matches officiated by ICC itself.

……hmm….after politicization and commercialization in cricket…..what else now?

ICC is an impersonal institution-----but are evil rats / minds working behind veils ?

Pakistan is just asking for written security assurance from your central government and not asking for special protocol ..dont forget that there are anti Pakistan sentiments in India not anti Bengali or anti Afghan so there is difference..Others countries can play in Mumbai and your shit sena and extremist nationalists will have no problems but he will start barking if Pakistan play over there
