Around 1970's , the America forces learned quickly that just having a basic Helicopter for transport was not enough to fight the war in Vietnam

Initially the Guns were installed on Bell Helicopter a very common theme now we find watching old 70's movies to place a weapon in passenger area of Chopper and then a gunman shoots the enemy on ground. The draw back of course was the accuracy factor , still this was a very good start in Common helicopters being converted into a Gunship Model

And gradually , they found Gunships would be needed which would alter the outcome of various battles on ground where conventional forces operated i.e Tanks, Foot Soldiers, Jeeps and APC.

The main objective for these Gunship was to take our fortified houses , and sheds and bunkers

Armed with basic machine guns and Rockets the 70's Chopper proved , that this was a necessary progression for Military from World War II mind set , a gunship offered necessary insurance policy for ground troops

Few nations of the world operated proper Gunships as such
and Americans further enhanced this specific ground force multiplier by introducing an upgrade which they called Apache back in Gulf war I in 1990's

The Apache Helicopters showcased , how Iraqi Tanks , and various defense structures were neutralized with a Apache fleet , which came equipped with new radars and missiles which made many of Saddam Hussain's ground defenses useless

The mighty Iraqi Tanks appeared ill equipped to handle Missiles from Air

The idea of Iraq's massive Tank fleet crumbling so easily was a sign the dynamics of war were changing and Gunship Helicopters were making a strong mark

The post Gulf war 1 , saw interest in Gunship platform to grow further.
The success was further boosted in the on going WOT in Afghanistan with many New Generation Gunships being in front lines of ground invasion operating in all sort of environment

The Apache , show cased their strengths in Afghanistan , Second Iraq War
An advance weapon on battle field.

Pakistan's Own Interest in Helicopter Fleet:

  • Pakistan , was able to grow it's own Helicopter fleet , with number Basic Cobra configuration Choppers which introduced Pakistan to the world of Helicopter Gunship which was an out dated configuration from 1970's certainly not at Equal with Apache Helicopters of the modern age warfare.

Turkey in Last 20 years took a keen interest to develop their Own Gunship Helicopters , thru various cooperative channels they managed to get Approval for creation of T-129 Gunship which took a good 10-12 years into realization

The T-129 , is an attempt to match the modern age Gunship requirements for many Ground forces of the world. The Helicopter can be considered as a Advance Upgrade to the 1970's Cobras with truck load of new technology and better Enhanced Engines

What is in it for Pakistan in the Deal and why it Matters?

  • T-129, is a ground force multiplier with Air Support from Gunship chances are your troops will survive and make better progress on field by ground
  • The T-129 can make mince meat out of the Heavy Armored formations of Tank
  • Also The T-129 has capability to Engage the Tight navigational areas of the Mountainous region and take on hidden armed units hiding in Mountains and Bunkers and fortified locations
  • Since Turkey is researching their own Helicopter Rockets that technology will certainly get to Pakistan 100% and not to mention possibility to study Helicopter Engines up close and personal
  • Most likely there would be chance to develop new workforce/engineers who are able to understand the new machines construction and maintenance needs
It is well Understood the Joint Cooperation between Pakistan - Turkey will ensure a Helicopter Service Factory will be setup in Pakistan inshallah which will setup ground works for even more collaboration in this field

The Arrival of T-129 and Helicopter Repair factory to Pakistan will certainly propel Pakistan in Area of Gunship Operator and Servisor

Where will the T-129 Make greatest difference?

  • Troop Protection who may be on march on ground or in vehicles
  • Safe guarding bases / checkpoints with enforced patrol from Air
  • Patrol around tenacious mountain areas of Afghanistan/Pakistan border
  • Possible Impact player vs any Tank Formation on ground
  • Special mission to empty Buildings from Fire from Air
  • Take out any Enemy drones and illegal incursions (Transport Helicopters)
  • There is also a possibility to use them at Sea for Anti Piracy forcing questionable fast ships to stop or else face the wrath of Roketsan missiles

With Arrival of T-129 Pakistani Ground forces would be entering year 2005's ground forces capability , yes T-129 is not the most advance chopper but certainly it helps improve the Pakistan Aviation Segment to around year 2005 quality force

T-129 (Joint Cooperation project is on Par with that on JF17). It should be prioritized full steam ahead mentality, it is the biggest modernization effort on the Military part the air support and cover provided would allow them to be more confident

While work is taking place in Turkey for the Helicopter nothing is stopping Pakistan military to finish the other stuff like Building factory or repair facility or picking candidates for training
so these engineers can live in turkey to get trained for 1-2 years

A radar similar to the apache mounted on the rotor would be nice.

Would not be surprised Turkey would build a miniature radar down the line

Tank units with few shoulder fired AAMs like stinger would be lethal to these helis

Atak II will be the game changer if Pakistan gets on the board for her own defence industry to develop.

Pakistan should consider joining the ATAK-2, T625 and the 10-ton helicopter. The common platform approach by Turkey (same rotors, transmission, drivetrain, etc) is impressive.

Geopolitics and Resources take over at that stage; however, as the nuke determination of Pakistan showed, Pakistan can suprise again and cross it again for those projects.

However, as you may already have realized Turkey has run multiple projects and Pakistan avoids taking part in and wants to stay as ''customer'' not partner. I would like to read your approach to this situation, if any.

Most of New Technology weapons used in asymetric warfare and Atak is best choice for Pakistan.
But I want to say the most important side is network centric warfare systems we used and test in Afrin operation with Uavs, kargu and Alpagu drones, electronic attack and support systems, F-16s,Atak-T129,Fırtına howitzers, guided missiles and satellites. The Real game changer is Network centric warfare. Some clever Greeks understood What we achived on NWS and Uavs with artificial intelligence capacity so they are very sad

If we look at from Pakistan side you will have T-129, milgem, agosta modernisation, New generation tank, JF-17 ,Uavs and this give you the same advantage to adopt network centric warfare systems to your defence forces.
