Syrian vice president Shara defects from Assad gov't

RT is least biased among the world's media today. Reuters is fabricating news these days looking at the Libor scandal and the nonsense it wrote on Libya and how its twisting facts on Syria.

instead of spouting the western mantras, how about you speak with real syrians? The Syrians don't want sharia law freaks. 55% population does not want Assad to resign and dread muslim brotherhood terrorists. So what the hell are you blabbering about?

Democracy is not something divine system of governance but still the best available way to know that what people want. Elites in Delhi & Mumbai do not decide that who will come in power its the masses in rural and shanty urban localities decide whether Mayawati will come in Power or mualyam singh. The studio debate does not decide the the legitimacy of the regime. I fully understand that what is going on in Syria is manged by non Syrians still in my view Al-Assad missed the bus.

Remember what Davoutoglu said in june 2011 that if Al-Assad had fought the free and fair elections at the protests started, he would have definitely won that. period...

Do not compare oranges with apple; 45 years of brutal dictatorship cannot be compared with electoral malfunctioning? Al-Assad can hold elections whenever he wants, it can be in 2024, he is the master of his subjects until he is alive. It is not the independent election commission who has to announce and mange the things.

Another strawman post.Tell that to the 100 million in tribal belt who were oppressed and murdered in large numbers by the corrupt indian govt who have joined up with the Naxalites as a result 40% of indian territory is yellow zone ,if this is the kind of mismanagement and criminal intent of destroying tribals by democracy ,we don't need it. As for Brutal dictatorship, tell that to the syrians ,they will rebut your silly arguements. Do you know referendum for free elections was held in Syria?

Tell me about what happens to dalits in Bihar and UP? Tell me about how the North Eastern people strongly dislike the disrespect of their culture ? Tell me why does vote fraud, voter intimidation occur? Tell me why infant mortality is so high?

If this is the democracy you talk about ,I openly spit on it.Only 50 million is the middle Class of India.

Social issues can not be compared by Aerial bombardment & artillery shelling , they need to be addressed properly. separatism, Maoism, untouchabality are very important issues need to addressed but not related to Syrian context.

Have you been reading the reports from the Syrian side ? Go ahead ,ask the syrians.A lot of reports are inflated by Western media and other thing, the terrorists take buildings and the civilians hostages and attack the police and army. But I think you are spouting Al qaeda propaganda.Maybe you should read what reuters use to write on the Kashmir in 80's-90's when the wahabbis jihadists were killing kashmiris.

At that time India was ally of Russia in the early 90's so Reuters and other western media use to write all kind of BS supporting those jihadists and constantly accusing india of all kind of hoopla. A lot of reports are being fabricated .

The news of Syrian Vice President defection is confirmed now...

Syrian Vice President Farouq al-Sharie has defected to Jordan, claimed spokesman for the Higher Revolutionary Council of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), Luay al-Miqdad, in an interview on Friday.

Miqdad told Al Arabiya that two other high-ranking officers have also defected, but did not give any names.

Sources from the Syrian opposition said that Sharie has been missing for the past two days and that he did not announce his “explicit” defection untill after he arrived in Jordan.

According to Miqdad, the regime of President Bashar al-Assad has been working on a scenario to make the FSA seem as the culprit behind Sharie’s “killing.”

Sharie, 74, has been Syria’s vice president since 2006.

Born in the southern city of Deraa, Sharie did not work in politics at first, but in the aviation sector early 1960s.

He has Bachelors in English, and in 1972 he left to study international law in London and was appointed in 1976 as Syria’s ambassador to Roma. In 1984, he served as the country’s foreign minister.
Clashes in Aleppo, Damascus

On Friday, clashes continued between FSA and security forces in Aleppo and Damascus.

Government troops fought back rebels near the airport of battle-scarred Aleppo, Syria’s state media said Friday, in the first official acknowledgement combat had neared a strategic gateway to the country’s largest city.

Syria’s official SANA news agency said “armed terrorist groups” - the regime’s phrase for rebels - had been pushed out from areas on both sides of the airport, which is located about 15 kilometers (nine miles) southeast of Aleppo’s historical center. The report did not make it clear whether the fighting was closer to the international airport or the adjacent military airfield, a base for carrying out airstrikes on rebel sites in the north.

Aleppo carries major symbolic and strategic value. It’s the commercial hub of northern Syria and close to rebel-held territory and critical supply corridors to the Turkish border.

In Damascus, activists reported heavy shelling and clashes in many areas Friday, including western districts believed to have rebel pockets. Damascus-based activist Moaz al-Shami described the shelling as “nonstop” and said gunners were firing from the Qassioun mountains overlooking the city.

Meanwhile, the Syrian National Council on Friday announced that the Red Crescent has brought six corpses to a hospital in the countryside of Damascus in Douma, with their necks all slit and hands handcuffed.

The 17-month-old conflict between Assad’s regime and rebels trying to bring him down has left some 20,000 people dead, according to estimates by anti-Assad activists. The escalating fight has in the past two months turned to battles in the country’s two main cities, Damascus and Aleppo - once firm bastions of Assad’s rule. Rebels have managed to keep fighting in both cities despite facing overwhelming regime firepower.
