The people that think Turkey will somehow lose to the PYD-PKK in Syria are living in a dream world. The Turkish Military fought PKK Terrorists in extremely tough geographic conditions for decades in south eastern turkey without having proper counter insurgency equipment. The PKK never even controlled any territory, all they could do was temporarily setup road blocks, kidnap village kids, plant landmines, and ambush crappy outposts. Today the Turkish Army is equipped with hundreds of mine resistant vehicles, has more recon capabilities thanks to UAVs, more attack helicopters, better equipment for soldiers, and better intelligence gathering capabilities.

The PYD is operating in flat terrain, they have no chance against the Turkish military if some sort of conflict were to break out. They will not be able to hide anywhere as the air force will pound them to bits, and artillery can be brought anywhere to take them out unlike the mountains of south east Turkey. The Turkish military has thousands of commandos specially trained for counter insurgency operations, tanks will not be the primary force being used to clear out the PKK if a conflict were to arise.

IMO Turkey will not try to take out PYD held areas anyway, most likely we will see Turkey setup a "safe zones" in FSA held areas in Syria north west syria thus separating the PYD held area of North Western Syria from the PYD held areas of North Eastern Syria. This will prevent the PYD from ever getting access to the Mediterranean and will make it impossible for the PYD haven in northwestern Syria to ever unite with the rest of the Kurdish areas. We may even see the military clear out the isis terrorists from the border aswell before those areas are taken over by the pyd.

How can 1.5-2.5 million stateless Kurds in Syria "threaten" almost 20 million Syrian Arabs? The few villages that the YPG has claimed to be in control of in Northern Syria have in most cases been "conquered" with the help of local Arabs. What unites those two groups is their hostility to both the Al-Assad regime and ISIS. Both operating in the neighborhood as of today. The only reason why YPG are even able to do that in the first place is the security situation of Syria.

The Kurdish dream of controlling a landmass in Syria that borders the Mediterranean Sea is bogus as the entire coastline and nearby areas are inhabited by Syrian Arabs. Be it Sunni Muslims or Alawis.

Our cousins the Assyrians and Chaldeans of Northern Syria might struggle though much like the Assyrians of Northern Iraq.

In short Kurds won't be able to do anything of worth outside of the small Kurdish majority areas of mostly Northeastern Syria. Aside from sporadic crimes here and there which will eventually backfire for them due to the demographic makeup of Syria.

I wish we did that but as you know PKK is now in Turkish parliament with 13%. The AKP traitors won't give up on this so-called peace process. At the same time YPG has rockstar status in western press. If Turkey starts campaign against YPG, Turkey would be labeled as helping ISIS. Most of the west doesn't care about Turkish safety. We made wrong decisions in Syria. This is going to hunt us.

The advancement of YPG is indeed mostly due to US/Western/Arab coalition bombings.

What I am saying is that there is no need to overestimate the Kurds. They might (for now) be the "darlings" of the West but they cannot eat more than they can swallow. Meaning that their area of control can only be concentrated in the tiny Kurdish majority areas of Syria. Mostly Northeastern. Whatever they do outside their comfort zone is mostly temporarily. There have been a few episodes here and there between Arabs and Kurds in Northern Syria but mostly the ties are OK. Right now most of them are fighting the Al-Assad regime and ISIS.

KSA does not support Kurds in Syria. KSA supports the Syrian opposition which is 90% made up by Syrian Arabs. FSA and the Islamic Front in particular. I have read some Kurdish forums, even those in Arabic, where they cry about KSA support for the enemies of Kurds. Some of them even believe that KSA is behind ISIS. If that was truth it would be quite a militant group to control but that's not the case in the real world.

I personally would not even support Kurds against Farsi backed Iraqi Shia Arab militias but the government of KSA might think otherwise as we are (and most of the Arab world) engaged in a proxy war with the Farsis and their allies. Kurds might become a weapon that KSA, Israel and West can use against Iran though if they keep their nonsense alive.

I don't care about conspiracy theories. I only care about what I observe. Recently Saudi Arabia has revealed that they not only support a Kurdish state in Syria but also in Iraq and even Turkey.It is official KSA policy now. They are not even hiding it.
