That was the gulf of tonkin incident (the ship that came "under attack" was in the gulf of tonkin, likely was never really attacked but firing at "ghost" on the radar)

PS...the pilots are safe, probably just nerves on the part of Syrian air defense, if a war comes between Turkey and Syria, it should not be from this.

No. The greeks always go into our airspace and we go into theirs; we even get into dog fights. No plane was every shot down by both sides. Recently a Israel aircraft went into our air space and then two F-16 escorted it.

Well about our F-4 incident Syrian Military should use Intercept protocol.Call for Intention before fire missiles.It's a well know fact.You cant just shoot a plane even it is your territory.Syrian Goverment is guilty for my point of view but we all know it is not about who is right or wrong, it is about who has a bigger balls

Why would any Syrian side shoot down Turkish plane??

My bet is that Syrian ADA is nervous and on high alert expecting a suprise raid or intervention, at the distance modern ADA works, you can't see a flag or roundel on a plane (you just know it isn't yours)
