True but later Najibullah had zero support from USSR specially when his northern supply lines were cut off he hardly had anything to feed up his large army and million of armed party members.

Assad today enjoys support of major players and with each passing day his side is getting stronger; but unfortunatly even if he wins the war he would still be a loser.

Taliban are difficult. Even the US had difficulty fighting Taliban.
