Militants fighting in Syria’s war put to use for the first time on Sunday American-made Humvees that they seized during a lightning offensive in Iraq this month, a monitor said.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, used the armoured vehicles to capture the villages of Eksar and Maalal in Aleppo province, which borders Turkey, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

It came after heavy fighting against the Islamic Front and its Al-Qaeda-affiliated ally, the Al-Nusra Front, said the Observatory, a Britain-based group that gets its information from a network of sources on the ground.

The two villages are located near the town of Azaz, which ISIL militiamen abandoned at the end of February under attack from rebels fighting to oust Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad.

ISIL, which espouses a radical interpretation of Islam and aims to set up a state stretching across the Syria-Iraq border, is now expected to launch a bid to retake Azaz.

ISIL seized the Humvees and sent them to Syria after Iraqi soldiers abandoned them during a surprise Sunni jihadist offensive that claimed Iraq’s second city of Mosul and swathes of other territory in mid-June.

Also on Sunday, ISIL gunmen abducted 20 Kurdish students on the road between Hasakeh and Qamishli in northeastern Syria, said the Observatory.

It comes three weeks after ISIL kidnapped 145 Kurdish students in Aleppo, as well as 193 Kurdish civilians at Qabasine village in the same province.

Parents of five students who managed to escape said the jihadists demanded that they join them in the fighting.

Kurdish militias, who are also trying to expand their autonomous region, have fought for months with ISIL, which has been seeking to seize from their control oil fields in northern and eastern areas.

While ISIS and ISIL have CIA's blessings, I think there is more to it than meets the eye.

the worst part is that ISIS have some spies in Iraqi so called army ... they knew all of Iraqi army operation before hand ...

That could be a possibility. But at the same time its kinda hard to say when ISIS/ISIL have been fighting other known CIA funded terrorist organizations like Al-Qaeda and Al-Nusra. It really sucks for the Syrians though that now their country has turned into a battle ground for different extremist organizations.

I think that ISIS is backed by the Russians to create a distraction in the ME for the US while they invade Ukraine. It's the most logical explanation.

It makes perfect sense, Russia recruited and armed fighters to fight against Assad, so they can go invade Iraq? The ISIS is a manifestation of the US, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar as well as some NATO states. Who openly supported the destabilization in Syria, who actively supported and probably recruited fighters in the region? Who armed and trained those radicals?

Says the guy who's country hid Bin Laden and then got all butt-hurt when we caught them red-handed. AND THEN let China look at the tail section of our stealth Apache. Pakistan isn't even close to being our 'friend'. The U.S. should wacky the filthy back-stabbers out........:taz:

Common sense is not so common in yankees. Those 9 11 attackers were hid by CIA I guess.

All those countries helped FSA, not Nusra ISIS or ISIL. FSA had legitimate cause, to stop assad and it's Shaheeba militia from unprovoked killings and barrel bombs

Well, you 'guess' like an idiot.:woot:

So you agree that American gov.t of Obama has been supporting and funding terrorist organizations in Syria??...

Everyone, except geniuses like you know we sent small arms to Syria and we tried to vet who these things were going to. It's not like we said, 'Where is Al Quada ? We need to give them stuff.' There were others there that were a bit more 'trustworthy', like F.S.A.
