Symbol of shining India - Dharavi slum

If Pakistan had a Dharavi, it might not have needed an IMF bailout
They have orangi biggest slum in the world but unlike Dharavi which has loads of single room factories, huge leather market and turnover approx 1 billion

.
Those informal industries will pose a challenge in the redevelopment of dharavi . People will not want to relocate even temporarily . Will have to see how the maharashtra government goes ahead with the plans . I think they will wait for the assembly elections to get over before taking any steps . But if BJP gov does not come back to power , forget the redevelopment for another five years as the congress and their allies thrive on the poor

Love the way your life is on fire seeing Modi in power in India. You have zero idea about the developments in India... I won't write much, just know there is a reason why he has come back with thumping majority.... India is moving at a pace that was never achieved in the past.
Good for you seriously .
But the truth remains the truth .
The rich get richer and the poor is getting poorer.

. .
India had Dharavi why did it need the IMF bailout in 1991?
Because Dharavi didn't produce much crude oil. Because gulf war was looming which put our forex under pressure.
We only took one bail out, not 13.

.
sir i disagree with you when you say modi has never done a single true reform . i will enumerate few

Ayushman Bharat:
The health insurance scheme launched on September 23, 2018, has already benefited 10 lakh poor patients and could be an electoral game-changer. More than 500 million Indians who could not afford medical treatment for non-communicable illnesses like cancer and heart disease now have access to free healthcare.

The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code: The legislation, enacted in December 2016, is the silver bullet to tackle India’s chronic problem of non-performing assets. Banks have begun to recover debts that had seemingly turned irretrievably bad. “Phone banking” has ground to a halt.

Rural electrification: The Modi government’s push to provide last-mile connectivity to hard-to-access rural clusters has been fairly successful. However, several villages cited as connected to the electrical grid still have households without power. Part of the problem is that some villages lie in areas controlled by Naxalites while in others the terrain makes access difficult.

Free LPG cylinders: Under the Ujjwala Yojana scheme, women in villages now have access to cooking gas. This has both health and economic benefits. Over 60 million free LPG connections have been given with nearly 50 per cent going to SC/ST households.

Sanitation: The Swachh Bharat Mission has built toilets at an unprecedented pace. Since October 2014, over 92 million toilets have been constructed, covering nearly 500 million households in one of the world’s largest operations of its kind. Cultural habits, however, mean that open-air defecation remains endemic. Many newly-built toilets lack sewage facilities; others are being used as storage rooms. Nonetheless, a beginning has been made.

Digital transfer of subsidies: This has cut out most (though not all) middlemen who routinely siphoned off large chunks of benefits due to the poor. Rajiv Gandhi, the then Prime Minister, had famously said in December 1985, while addressing the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Congress, that only 15 paise out of every rupee in subsidies reaches the poor. With digitised transfers that figure has probably risen to 75 paise.

However, lack of Internet connectivity in rural areas, combined with limited digital literacy among farmers and labourers, often leave them at the mercy of local officials to access their money electronically.

Infrastructure: There has been a steep rise in building roads, highways and metro networks as well as housing for the poor. These are long-term initiatives but the benefits are already visible. According to fact-checking sites, 12km of highways were constructed in 2013-14. This pace more than doubled to 27km per day in 2017-18. In Mumbai alone, coastal roads, a new airport and a large metro network could transform public transport in India’s richest city that has long been infrastructure-poor.

Strong basics

Foreign policy: The government has repaired relations with China, the Maldives and Sri Lanka, built economic and geopolitical bridges to east Asia and west Asia and strengthened the strategic partnership with the US.

GST: The implementation of the goods and services tax was chaotic and its structure needlessly complex. Its benefits, though, are beginning to seep through the economy. Revenue is lower than expected but the removal of octroi, for example, has greatly helped the logistics and transport industries. The absence of state boundary checks means truckers save up to 30 per cent in fuel and time, raising productivity with quicker turnarounds.

Projects benefited bjp donors. How many people from ghandi dynasty been convicted. Non because the corrupt that supported them have jumped ship to bjp.

So people voted Modi to power with bigger majority.

Therefore poor guys re-elected him their PM for making them poorer, is this what Pakistanis are told to believe ?

Pakistanis are told nothing friend.
And watch every Pakistani channel, except for some coverage during your election nothing is shown or no narrative is shaped unlike India where narrative about Pakistan is shaped.
No talk show does programs on India, nothing about India is ever discussed.
Now you see the euphoria that is created that it is Modi who attacked Pakistan and it is Modi who is the saviour and who saved our economy and f the false perception of development coupled with mainstream media acting as bjp media cell has won them elections.
Do you really think a person living in slum, has nothing to eat and work day and night to eat a single meal would really care who he votes . But though Bollywood, through your media you bjp has created an illusion and built a house of cards . People gave come under the influence . It is not like old days . You can influence people narrative and people thoughts because people are not intellegent enough to understand these things. Not that I say the Congress is a better option for India, it is not .
But same was bjp .
With your economy you can work wonders.
Those wonders are not happening.

. .

did you see that one picture of Orangi Slum it looks better than most of India's developed cities. Orangi is an un-allotted colony with raods, electricity, sewage, water and all facilities. They are mostly concrete built proper houses and you will see houses as big as 600 sq yards. oh and you will also see cars and garages in many houses, the best part living there is no property taxes

.
Dharavi slum has anywhere between 600k to 1 million people. Lets take 800k people. To generate billion USD revenue each person per capita gdp has to be just around $1428 USD. Thats less than 60 percent of Indian per capita. And this meager amount is also in one of the richest cities of India whose per capita income will be several times that of India. So generating one billion USD in dharavi is nothing unusual and actually proves it to be a slum. Even this one billion is also "as per some measures" . what measures we don't know. India's own government chief economic adviser did not believe in "measures" of Indian govt statisticians and recently published an article on it.

So ladies and gentlemen this is how India rolls. World looks at wretched conditions of Dharavi, is shocked by it so much that it actually pays to watch how people can live or smile in such gut wrenching conditions. A normal decent country would have been humiliated by it and acted to fix the slum. But not the brahmin India. It thinks of the caste and religion of the people and thinks they deserve to live in such conditions. And it gives a spin of 1 billion USD turnover and as an excuse for doing nothing. And bhakths - a bhakth is a third rate moron who has no humanity or heart or sense of justice - roll with it in international forums. Can there be any more disgrace on humanity ?
