Since you don't see this soldier armed with a pistol to kill a ninja armed with a sword and runs away instead most likely because the pilot has no pistol and is on an exercise, that's a smart decision. Nobody wants to fight unarmed against someone with a knife or sword in this case.

I don’t think people understand how little training special forces and for that matter any soldier gets in edged weapons and hand to hand combat.
Most amateur fighters can hand a soldier a bad beating with ease.
These guys are gun expert.
