The Swedish Armed Forces has made a formal request to procure the Saab GlobalEye airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft on 1 October.
The request, which came some eight months after
Janes
first reported the country’s intent in February, is geared at finding a replacement for the Swedish Air Force (SwAF’s) two ageing Saab 340 (ASC 890) Erieye platforms.
“The Armed Forces has submitted a request to the government with a formal request for an authorization to purchase the airborne radar reconnaissance and command system GlobalEye,” the Armed Forces said in a statement. “The Armed Forces has previously budgeted to purchase new radar reconnaissance and command aircraft. The petition that has now been sent to the government is a start to the process of purchasing these.”
The statement did not disclose aircraft numbers, proposed contract values, or delivery timelines.

Does anyone know about the full capabilities of the GlobalEye system on here? What are the differences between Erieye and GlobalEye? Lastly, if the Swedes are trying to replace Erieye with the GlobalEye, does it mean that PAF's Erieye platforms will be upgraded?
Lastly, the 2 Erieye's being phased out, will obviously be much depreciated and will be available for less than half the price. Will Pakistan induct more Erieye's?

Swedish build nothing more than watered down borrowed US technology. In return, they provide US with back door access into their products that are sold to other militaries. Specially communication and surveillance equipment.

The GlobalEye system is a heavily adapted Global 6000 capable of conducting airborne early warning and control (AEW&C), maritime and land surveillance, and electronic intelligence duties. Included in the package is Saab’s improved Erieye ER active electronically scanned array radar, now capable of a 70% greater detection range than its previous sensor, and the ability to spot challenging targets, such as cruise missiles, small unmanned air vehicles and hovering helicopters. Combining its below-fuselage mounted maritime search radar and electro-optical/infrared sensor will enable operators to locate surface threats and submarine periscopes, while its primary sensor’s synthetic aperture radar and ground moving target indication modes will be used to locate land targets.

I am sure PAF leadership will be thinking of similar questions, we just have to wait and see what they decide.

I wasn't referring to any linkage between the two. I was asking about the upgrade as it seems the Swedes are using the GlobalEye and scrapping off the Erieye, making it a legacy system. Which would tell me the GlobalEye has a lot more capability and thus, the PAF should upgrade to that standard to fill the capability gap between Erieye and GlobalEye.

I am not aware of any plans for the PAF to procure more globaleyes or eireyes. There may be options to buy more eireyes or upgrade to global eye standards.

i would think that it may be time to upgrade Karakoram eagle awacs platform with the more advanced variant. The Chinese version seen in one of the Shaheen excercises seemed to have a lot kore features. I beehive a y-20 based larger awacs maybe in the Works

our Erieye systems are fairly new in fact we ordered additional new Radars in recent past so I don't think PAF will upgrade it in near future.

It does not make much sense for the PAF to operate just 2 Saab 340's and there is no value in transplanting a 2nd hand used radar set onto a Saab 2000.

It would make more sense for an existing Saab 340 operator eg Thailand to pick these up if they are offered at bargin basement prices, etc.

I agree with you. I've been preaching here this same thing. The PAF needs advance aircrafts.

That's logical. But the bigger question was upgrading PAF's Erieye's to GlobalEye standards. I'd be curious to know the differences.
