Swat video ‘conspiracy to malign Islam’: PIHR SWAT: Chairman Pakistan International Human Rights, Raja Liaquat Ali has said that the video footage of a 17-year old Swat girl being aired on media is fictitious and termed it a conspiracy to malign Islam.

Addressing a press conference in Swat Press Club, he said the video footage of a girl being flogged in public has nothing to do with Swat and that it is a made-up video.

“The purpose of displaying this video is to tarnish the image of Islam.”

He said some elements want the Swat peace agreement to fizzle out.

But the article simply reports Raja Liaquat's assertion, it does not report any evidence Raja Liaquat produced, only his opinion.

If it turns out that the video was genuine, he will have simply have made look PIHR look an even less effective organisation whose word cannot be trusted.

And he will have made Pakistan look worse - regardless of his intentions.

Yes, it sounded fake to me too initially. Why had it come out now, right after the Swat deal? That was a bit of a coincidence.

I've no doubts there's people working to undermine the Swat peace deal, some foreign powers involved, some would prefer Pakistan to be killing its own people.

However, also I've seen the video now, it's not a beating. It looks more like a gentle carress on the back. I've seen instances of police brutality much worse than this all over the world, whether it's to a man or a woman.

Maybe I am wrong, but even though I could only bring myself to watch the video once, I observed that the "maggot-minded, starved, fanatic crew" who were flogging this poor young woman were not flogging her rear - but her front.

It was when I realised that that I became convinced that the people carrying this out were from a literalist, ignorant, uncivilised, strand of Islam, the same strand that was fed and nurtured by both the CIA, and the ISI(or do we have to say rogue elements of..?) for geo-political, NOT RELIGIOUS, purposes.

That is when I am forced to recall the history of how General Zia encouraged these animals and made them bolder, all for the sake of moving Russia out of and Pakistan into Afghanistan.

People here may think that even if this video and the treatment of this young woman has nothing to do with the nuturing of the most Fundamentalist strands of Islam, years ago.

Let's face it, the CIA did not want to throw money like confetti at the contemplative sages of Islam, or it's philosophers, saints, and mystics. That kind of Islam was no use for getting rid of Russians.

But all this leaves a legacy. I suggest that if this video is genuine - and there is no evidence that it isn't - it is part of that legacy, several brutalised strands of Islam that are convinced that they, and they alone, represent the true Islam.

I know they do not, I remember full well how many of Mohammad's condemnations of sectarianism found their way into the Qu'ran, but the rest of the world is being convinced otherwise - not by nefarious Indian conspiracies but by the actions of the Muslims that General Zia appeased. Maududi's Muslims, or if it pains you to hear them described as Muslims, Maududi's Islamists, the shouters for the Islam of the loadest voice, the Islam most useful to Islam's enemies to point at.

Stricking a young woman on the front like that and pretending to be so pious about it - it smells of "Taliban" to me.

I would be happy to read hard evidence that it was a fake but even if the video was a fake it wouldn't remove Zia's legacy.

So I guess the evidence of police stations being blown to bits, security personnel being beheaded, petty thieves being executed gang land style, women being beaten with sticks in public for not being fully covered and escorted by their male relatives, false or unproven claims of adultery leading to stonings and lashes, etc. are all fake and the only ones to blame are conspirators working in a Hollywood studio thousands of miles away.

There's been no stonings in Swat.

If those are the lashings, I wouldnt call them lashings.

Police stations have been blown up, agreed. Security personnel have been beheaded, agreed.

Why have those been occurring?
Why are they (these hooded people) attacking the security personnel?
Why has "Talibanism" spread to Swat?
What is making the ideology more popular?

Is it possible that the war next door has spilt over a bit? The Indian consulates, the US drone strikes are stirring up these people? The influx of radicals from Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Arabia has caused this following the US invasion of Afghanistan?

If so, you don't deal with it by bombing the crap out of Swat, and alienating the people further. You win over the people, and the elders that are native to Swat. Then you get rid of the foreign elements and re-educate.

She's lying face down, and the whipping is on her back. It's not even over her private parts. I don't want to get into the details of this, but how on earth, even if she was lying on her back, would that be a carress over her private parts? Do you know the anatomy of a woman? It's not like a man btw.

Public humiliation or painful limb chopping, the point is an entity other than the government has usurped the throne and is playing judge jury and executioner while destabilising our own nation and inviting trouble from others.
