Swat Liberated - Valey under Pakistan control

I'm sure they will, but its taking too long. Like Asim said we want them out yesterday!

Look what we need to understand here is that army is under immense pressure at the moment. Not only we are up against external threats but also up against a huge pile of internal threats. From the troubled FATA area to the province of baluchistan, bhuggti, islamabad which is the captial and now SWAT. More over if the army had started the operation from the day one, then most of us here would be saying that army only knows force, there isnt any dialouge, we will see another east pakistan kinda nonscense. So considering all of these factors, i think army did a reasonable good job and now more by kicking the hell out of these bastards. I do believe that respective law enforceing agencies should step up their responsibilities so that army could be least involved in matters likes these. I heard president saying that we have start receiving aid for the FC uplifting and their training is being done in army training centers and moreover tanks will be provided to them. So i believe in future FC will be able to handle situations as complex as the one in swat. I personaly wish if an airwing of attack helicopters or perhaps jets like the warthog A-10 for close air support could also be provided to the FC. This would indeed boost their fighting capabilities to a completely new standards.

Pak troops seize Swat peak, shut 'Mullah Radio'

PESHAWAR: Pakistani troops have re-captured a strategic mountain from pro-Taliban militants in the northwest Swat valley and shut down their pirate radio station, officials and residents said on Tuesday.

The provincial government said security forces had secured more towns and seized Najia Top, the highest peak in a district that has been a stronghold of hardline cleric Maulana Fazlullah.

Residents and state television said Fazlullah's pirate radio station, from which he preaches holy war against the government, had also been shut down. "The area between Kanju and Najia Top has been successfully secured," the provincial government said .

Officials suspect the clandestine FM radio — which earned Fazllullah the nickname Mullah Radio — was also operating from this area. Residents said it had ceased broadcasting on Monday. "We have tried different frequencies but it is silent," said one resident, Wahab Ahmed.

Government forces have stepped up their offensive in the area in the past few days, using artillery and helicopter gunships to drive the insurgents out of their mountain strongholds. President Pervez Musharraf, who cited growing militancy as one of the reasons for declaring emergency rule on November 3, ordered the army to purge the area of rebels after they had made sweeping gains in recent months.

Chief military spokesman Maj Gen Waheed Arshad said on Monday that security forces were intensifying operations, with ground troops starting to play a role in the assaults for the first time. Government and military officials have reported scores of casualties among the rebels since the weekend, including three commanders.

i was talking to a friend who mentioned that his servant (who was a resident of swat) left his job to go to swat to get his family out of the conflict area. the servant called my friend to let him know that he and his family were ok. then he mentioned something weird.
he said that the militants who have been killed are not muslims but belong to another religion - sikhs!!!

More elaboration of this. Is this verifiable or just just a result of confusion?

Rumors spread like wildfire in Pakistan. I wouldn't believe it. India won't send soldiers to fight.

PESHAWAR, Nov 28 (AFP): Troops Wednesday captured the base of radical militant cleric Maulana Fazlullah in Swat Valley where nearly two weeks of clashes have killed around 250 militants, officials said. “Security forces entered Imam Dheri town, the main base of Maulana Fazlullah,” a provincial government spokesman told AFP. The cleric controlled a huge complex in Imam Dheri including a mosque and a madrassa spread over two square kilometers. Some 200 armed followers used to guard the complex prior to the recent clashes. The base, some eight kilometres from the valley's main town of Mingora, is in Kabal district, where most towns have fallen to the government in the past two days. Fazlullah’s whereabouts remain unknown. Security sources said the cleric's close aides had fled, including his spokesman, Maulana Sirajuddin. They quoted residents as saying they were seen heading for the mountains. (Posted @ 17:10 PST)

Fatman,

If illiterate servants (and I presume Swat is not budding with scholars and intellectuals) are to be believed, then the world is also flat!

What about Maulana himself?

Are we going to see a large scale manhunt or anything?

Also for that matter what about hunting down other terrorists like Baitullah Mehsud?

Mullah DJ in now on the run…You would of thought he got the message after the regular army arrived but no he wanted to carry on getting 250 of his men killed and then fleeing probably in a Bukra like his Uzbek friends we caught the other day. I doubt he will seek refuge in populated areas as people will hand him over and the hatred I hear from friends in Swat against him is intense. If he has gone into the mountains cut off their supply routes, weaken them and then move in for the final push.
