Suspected Pak militant arrested for attack on CRPF camp in Srinagar: Sources

Updated: March 14, 2013 22:43 IST

Srinagar: In a major breakthrough in yesterday's fidayeen or suicide attack on the camp of Central Reserve Police Force or CRPF in Srinagar, police have arrested a suspected Pakistani militant, sources said.

The militant, identified as Talha, was arrested from Chattabal area of Srinagar, said sources. He is reportedly a resident of Multan in Pakistan.

Two militants were killed in the attack while two others had escaped. The arrested militant was among those who had escaped, sources said. The police said they are looking for the other militant suspected to be hiding in the area.

The militants, carrying what looked like cricket bags, entered the CRPF camp in Bemina area of Srinagar on Wednesday and walked onto a large open field where off-duty officers and children were playing a cricket match. They opened fire without cover and lobbed grenades at the officers.

Five CRPF jawans were killed and four civilians were injured in the suicide attack, the first in Srinagar after a gap of three years. Six other jawans sustained injuries - one of them was in critical condition.

Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said in Parliament that the two terrorists killed in Wednesday's attack appeared to be of Pakistani origin, and the diaries recovered from them contained Pakistani phone numbers. Pakistan has denied any link to the ambush.

Mr Shinde said about 50 CRPF personnel of the 73 Battalion were present at the school for further deployment when the incident occurred.

The Home Minister said responsibility for the attack had been taken by an agent of Hizbul Mujahideen but the authenticity of the claim was yet to be ascertained.

Good Job!! Now arrest that other swine too.

In the coming days, he will regret 'why he was even born' :)

Sh!t's gonna hit the fan all over again, I am tired of this Pak sponsored terrorism, India will declare Pak based terrorists did it and Pakistan will refuse it.

Its high time Pakistan reverts its militant proxy war and both nations move forward on peace and development. Consider the aman ki asha cr@p derailed once more.

I hope Imran Khan wins this time, he was sure that he will stop this Pak based terrorism in Kashmir and elsewhere once and for all.

Well those protesters were trying to block CRPF on route to delivery blood for injured soldiers.

Won't you agree if FC is attacked by terrorists and Baloch people try to block their way ?

Why ere the protesters there at the first place. Terrorists attack CRPF soldiers.

It is Pakistan which is trying to divert the attention of people towards Kashmir as elections are approaching.

Read the highlighted part again and judge for yourself...if it makes any sense at all.
If there is cross border firing like that happened a few months back, that can get public's attention.....how does an attack inside IOK by locals would have any consequences on Pakistani elections. :haha:
