Suspected IS Loyalists Execute Pakistani Spy Agency Officer.

March 04, 2017 1:19 PM Ayaz Gul

ISLAMABAD — Police and witnesses in central Pakistan say that suspected Islamic State militants have executed a kidnapped officer of the country’s prime intelligence agency and dropped his chained body on a busy road before driving away.
Police in the city of Multan, where the rare incident occurred, say they found the body early Saturday morning and it was dressed in an orange jump suit like detainees at the U.S.-run Guantanamo Bay detention center in Cuba.
Officials identified the slain man as Umar Mobeen Gilani, saying he was kidnapped nearly three years ago by unknown gunmen in Multan, where he was serving in a counterterrorism unit of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, or ISI.
A message inscribed on Gilani’s shirt said that “Daesh Pakistan” killed “ISI spy” and mentioned the date when he was kidnapped, according to police officials. Daesh is the Arabic acronym for Islamic State.
An official at the spy agency confirmed to VOA that Gilani was an ISI operative. Requesting anonymity, the official said that a major manhunt is underway in Multan to locate perpetrators of the crime but would not discuss further details.

Stepped-up attacks
The Middle East-based Islamic State terrorist group lately has stepped up attacks in Pakistan.
The deadliest strike took place last month when an IS suicide bomber blew himself up in a crowded Sufi shrine in southern Sindh province, killing more than 90 devotees and wounding over 300 more. The victims mostly belonged to the minority Shi'ite Muslim community.
Multan and adjoining southern districts of Pakistan's most populous Punjab province have traditionally hosted radical Islamic groups, some of which are blamed for extremist and sectarian violence in the country.
The southern region is considered the heartland of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi or LeJ, an outlawed Sunni militant group blamed for deadly attacks against Shiite Muslims.
Some Pakistani officials suspect LeJ members have lately joined hands with IS’s regional franchise “Khorasan Province” to promote the Middle East-based terrorist group’s extremist ideology in Pakistan-Afghanistan region.
The government, however, insists IS has no “organized presence” in Pakistan and security forces are determined not to allow the terrorist group to establish a foothold in the country.
Officials say that IS is plotting attacks in Pakistan from its save havens in border regions of neighboring Afghanistan.
Pakistan's military has recently launched a new nation-wide counterterrorism operation, which is also tasked to target suspected militant hideouts in Punjab.

Pakistan shouldn't fall into this new western franchise called ISIS. The phony organisation apparently was created to replace the previous franchise Al-Qaeda which was in effect finished due to Obamas' need of the hour during election campaign, as the Abbottabad drama unfolded.

Pakistan should go after terrorists without giving them any franchise name.

Same as the previous Al-Qaeda franchise which gave plenty of opportunities to western powers of scaring countries into buying weapons from them and even allowing western armies to enter their countries, this new ISIS franchise is also a cash cow for western weapon sellers and for political leverage and bullying tool.

.
And which "Official" confirmed to VOA news that the deceased was ISI agent?
Identities of intelligence operatives is never disclosed like that.
Whole news is a phony one.

3 years ago there was no daesh in pakistan or anywhere else. daesh was formed in feb 2014. so the next day it was formed in middle east it kidnapped a pakistani in pakistan is just a joke. TTP or some other group is behind it. or may be raw did it. and used ISIS name.
but it could be some personal reason too.he may not be an ISI agent as ISI man cannot be kidnapped and kept for so long without any strong retaliation.

.
Some Murderers/kidnappers for hire group is masquerading as Daesh Al Bakistan (lol) so police don't investigate further into crime and to divert media attention.

Or maybe foreign operatives to spread fear in Pakistan and scare investors away. Especially as Pakistan is due to be upgraded from 'Frontier Market' to 'Emerging Market' by MSCI (biggest international index in the world)

Very easy to get jumpsuits and replace in 'p' in Pakistan

Its a huge failure of ISI, he was kidnapped in 2014 and ISI could not recover him in this long time.

I agree . With the scores of fatalities in Lahore and now this killing , isi has proven quite incompetent in safeguarding Pakistans interests.

.
ISIS is the real threat, many extremists have pledged their allegiance to them.
Pakistan should eradicate them before they are able to spread their roots further.

if he would have been ISI agent. he would have been executed before by terrorists or would have been exchanged for prisoners. Also you won't have been told about his death as it can expose wole networks.
