External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday assured a Pakistani man medical visa for his father after the case was recommended by the country’s adviser on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz.

Taking to twitter to present his case, Saeed Ayub said “I sold half of my assets 4 (for) my father’s liver transplant from India and now no medical visa for us. Why only common man suffers.”

Swaraj, known for extending a helping hand to people who approach her through social media, said, her sympathies are with him.

My sympathies are with you. We will give you the visa. Sartaj Aziz Sahib should recommend your case. https://t.co/ZZvQjafIGY

Only a letter of recommendation by Pakistan Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj Aziz will enable a Pakistani national to get a medical visa for India, the External Affairs Ministry had said recently, a condition reflective of the strained ties between the two neighbours.

India shouldn't stop medical Visas for critically ill patients, the cataracts and Bariatric surgery ones can go take a hike

But it has to be endorsed by the pakistani govt. So that there is accountability set in case some terrorist comes in

There are plenty of Pakistanis who come and vanish in India, they are not necessary medical tourists and they don't have to be. If ISI wants to push a spy/terrorist they can do so without applying for a Visa. There are probably 10,000 illegal Bangladeshis in my neighborhood slums near Mumbai, we don't exactly have non-porous borders.

I think that's a fair enough opinion.

The purpose is to make a point and that can be done by reducing say by 90% Visas issued. By a troubled person shouldn't be troubled more b'coz Karma is a bitch. Also when connected crappy peaceniks can get Visas then why not people who really need it.

Pakistan foreign affairs office should give the letter of recommendation for speedy issue of visa from Indian end.

India had to resort to such bullshit...damn you pakistan !!

Ideally speaking I would have liked to see better relations, more trade and freer movement in the region. But given the geo-political realities, the least we can do is scrape by the bare minimum and just maintain a sense of humanity in the hopes that the situation can improve some day.

True, the animosity is a total lose-lose situation for both countries. No cricket, trade add to that amount of money and energy we spend on probably harming each other. If relations of India and Pakistan would be on good terms boy! it would have been fun. The business and tourists, I would have loved to visit Lahore and make friends there.

Ditto. I would have loved to take on Laddakh's bike trails and maybe visit the tropical south. There's a lot to be gained through the normalization of relations between both states. I sometimes think of what could have been accomplished if our countries had adopted a more collaborative approach towards science and technology.
