Pakistan routinely engages in ceasefire violation at the border
Pakistan is well aware that similar action could be repeated, says Army

by Abhishek Bhalla

On the first anniversary of India's surgical strikes across the Line of Control (LoC), which destroyed several terror launchpads supported by the Pakistan Army, the Indian Army expressed confidence that it can take similar action again, if needed.

Top Army officers said the strikes did send a message across and that Pakistan was well aware that similar action could be repeated.

"Surgical strikes were conducted to drive home the point that we can go across and strike. We wanted to convey this message," Lieutenant General Devraj Anbu, who heads the Northern Command, told DNA. Last year's action, which took place on the intervening night of September 28 and 29, had changed the dynamics on ground, and launching more such assaults would be much easier now.

"It took a lot of planning to carry out last year's strikes. After the success, the situation has changed. If required, such raids can be launched quickly by the Special Forces. The response time is lesser now," an Army source said.

Currently, nearly 14 active terror launchpads across the LoC are under the radar of the Indian Army. The terror launchpads identified as highly active include Balakot, Garhi Habibullah, Batrasi, Mashar-e-Akshah, Abdullah bin Mausam, Dalai, Chela Bandi, Kotli, Dungi, Gulpar, Barali, and Mandakuli.

"The strikes were meant to send a message. They have understood and these things will follow, if required," Army Chief General Bipin Rawat had said recently. He had added that the Army was fortunate that there were no casualties in last year's operation.

The Army sources said the morale of the troops on teh ground has been high since the strikes. The counter-terror operations since then have been of high impact, targetting the top leadership of terror outfits in Jammu and Kashmir. The total casualties till now stand at 157, going past last year's tally of 150. Also, between 2013 and 2015, 136 terrorists were killed.

Most of the killings took place following the unrest in Kashmir, after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Wani, in July last year. There have 472 incidents of ceasefire violation on LoC this year, by Pakistan. While 291 terrorists attempted infiltration, 50 were killed and 80 were successful in getting in.

I wish we fix our economy and have more of a debate on that rather then these "surgical attacks".

These cross border attacks happened since the 90s from both sides , they weren't published , today they are , so people can conveniently avoid asking the govt tough questions on issues that really matter.
@Joe Shearer @MilSpec @anant_s your thoughts?

You know the story as well as I do. Whenever a new CO takes over the other side 'tests' him for a week or so. Once it is established that he will give it back, peace settles in; if he turns out to be a wimp, may the Almighty help that battalion. As for cross-border strikes, both sides have done these, and have kept doing these. Nothing new about it. Why these morons had to publicise this latest one, and paint the Pakistanis into a corner, where they had no choice but to deny that it happened, or to face public fury and disenchantment, is beyond my comprehension. All of a piece with their general mutton-headedness, and all due to their having more bark than bite. Perhaps it is just what you said, a slick way of diverting attention from the total failure of their administration in almost every sphere.

What worthless war mongering.

With the economy needing a stimulus, communal disharmony rampant and a poor display of diplomacy regional as well as international.

The indian establishment continues to flirt with its boogeyman delaying the inevitable social collapse in the upcoming planned/designed recession.

Really agree with economy part, I mean we may be having a crisis on our hands in a couple of years. Government urgently needs to correct slowdown caused by multiple factors and need to infuse capital in otherwise gloomy looking scenario.
Right now focus should be on banking sector and improving health of agriculture and small & micro businesses that have bore most severe brunt from Demonetization.
let's just hope government is coming up with some concrete steps.

Modi is shrewd guy. He is busy in isolating Pakistan worldwide so that no one will take side with them. That is why he is bashing Pakistan in every international forum possible. First Americas then Arabs and now the last standing China also joining slowly. After that the real attack will begin. This is very important for him to bring back occupied GB Kashmir and possibly Baluchistan for his next election.
you have find a great mind sir please do not overuse it

so India is afraid of US, China and Arabs? India wont do anything that is in her interests so not to upset these countries?. Is Bangladesh on board as well, make sure of that or they will attack you.

For some reason Pakistanis are are doing something really interesting... they are creating these threads on Surgical Strikes and then going around debunking the event.... Looks like the event has been etched into their memories for generations to come.
