Surface-to-surface missile Agni-II test-fired

Bhubaneswar: India test-fired its nuclear capable Agni-II strategic ballistic missile on Thursday from the Wheeler island of Odisha coast at 8:45 am.The medium-range missile with a range of over 2,000 km has been already inducted and is part of Strategic Forces arsenal for nuclear deterrence.

The two-stage missile, equipped with an advanced high-accuracy navigation system and guided by a novel state-of-the-art command and control system, is powered by a solid rocket propellant system..

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) first tested the Agni-II in 1999.
Since then it has been tested several times.:pop:

I will be pleased if -
1) The said missile is canisterized for Immediate deployment and increasing Transportability
2) Gyro System - Has been moved to EM-NSAT + Digital Hybrid
3) Missile size Miniaturized for increasing numbers carried per Launcher.
4) We sell the Missile to Vietnam

Just for point of noting the facts.. distance between Hanoi and Beijing is 2325 Km; well withing the range of Agni-II if launched from Hanoi.

Distance between Beijing china and Hanoi vietnam

I don't India will sell Agni-II directly to Vietnam any time soon (MTCR etc; even though India isn't legally restricted by MTCR).

But the point is Vietnam can keep china in it's place, if they develop or acquire an Agni-II type of missile.

Balasore (Odisha): Sharpening its missile teeth, India on Thursday successfully test-fired its medium range nuclear capable Agni-II missile with a strike range of 2000 km as part of a user trial by the Army from the Wheeler Island off Odisha coast.

"The trial of the surface-to-surface missile was conducted from a mobile launcher from the Launch Complex-4 of Integrated Test Range (ITR) at around 0848 hours," defence sources said.

Describing the launch as a complete success, ITR Director MVKV Prasad said, "All mission parameters were met during the trial of the indigenously developed missile."

Agni-II Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) has already been inducted into the services and today's test was carried out by the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) of the Army with logistic support provided by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).



"The 2000 km range versatile missile, already inducted and part of countries arsenal for strategic deterrence, was launched as a training exercise by the armed forces," a DRDO scientist said.

The two-stage missile equipped with advanced high accuracy navigation system, guided by a novel scheme of state of the earth command & control system was propelled by solid rocket propellant system, he said.

The entire trajectory of the trial was tracked by a battery of sophisticated radars, telemetry observation stations, electro-optic instruments and naval ships located near the impact point in the down range area of the sea.

The 20-metre long Agni-II is a two-stage, solid-propelled ballistic missile. It has a launch weight of 17 tonnes and can carry a payload of 1000 kg over a distance of 2000 KM.

The state-of-the-art Agni-II missile was developed by Advanced Systems Laboratory along with other DRDO laboratories and integrated by the Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL),?Hyderabad,?the sources said.

Agni-II is part of the Agni series of missiles which includes Agni-I with a 700 km range, Agni-III with a 3,000 km range, Agni-IV and Agni-V.

The first prototype of Agni-II missile was carried out on April 11, 1999.

Though trial conducted on May 19, 2009 and the first night trial on November 23, 2009 from Wheelers Island could not meet all the parameters, all other trials including the last one carried out on September 30, 2011 from the same base were successful.

the truck's hydrolic system seems changed , in the post no8s pic , there r two piped hydrolcs, in the 3rd pic thre is only a single hydrolic due to perhaps reduced missile weight?

No, the third pic also has two hydraulic lifts, the first one is exactly in front of the second.. The camera is in same exact plane as the launcher..


Lets see if they stopped using welds to separate each stage on the Agni 2.

This was a SFC operational test, I do not think that a change in the missile's construction will be directly given to the SFC without testing it themselves..

This was a SFC operational test, I do not think that a change in the missile's construction will be directly given to the SFC without testing it themselves..

Since this was a test by the SFC it should be just a validation trial of the missile not a test...

Was just a "batch sample QAQC test".
Which clauses of the ISO regime were used? :)

I dont see why many people still classify MRBMs as SSMs. its true they are launched from
land and hit a target on land but SSM means ballistic missiles between 0-100km,
beyond that they should be called SRBMs, Agni-2 is an MRBM with 2000km range.
