Support for secularism grows in Pakistan

Whose "Shariah law"? Shia or Sunni? What about the Agha Khanis? What about the fundamentalist versions of Shariah practiced by the Taliban? What about the Submitters who only believe in the Quran and not the hadith?

Muslims need to come up with a unniversally accepted "draft" of "Shariah law", before they start talking about implementing it.

Sir, this is less than 2.7% Islamic understanding where sects tend to differ from the others. Suni, Shia, Deobandi, Salfi or who ever they are, every one believes in Quraan, Allah to be one and Prophet Muhammad PBUH to be his Messenger. Islam consitutues of 5 elements,

1 - Kalma
2 - Prayer
3 - Fast
4 - Zokat
5 - Haj

Ask any of the sects you want, they will have consensus over upto 97.3% and any body who is performing these services is a Muslim. We have ahadith of Prophet Muhammad PBUH upon which we can build this nation. Quraan and Sunnat are the thing which Holy Prophet said will guide you and we are asked to stick to them at the time of unsurity. So whats the difference anymore? We only need to teach these Mullahs that relegion could not be "forced" and even non-Muslims or Bad Muslims have their right to enjoy freedom within Islamic State. If somebody is a bad practitioner, his matter is with God and thats why there exists a day when everybody would be queestioned for the deeds and rewarded. So let those bad practitioners and non-Muslims to get their share of deeds that day.

Our problem is not relegious extremists or liberalist extremists in Pakistan, its the fact that we are choosing a bad "Sample" to study and make our opinion. Mullahs are equally at mistake as much the people who think Pakistan should be secular.

Regarding freedom mentioned by Quaid Azam, True, every Pakistani has freedom to offer prayer in Temple or Mosque. But you are mistaken if you think Quaid-Azam is offering something new to the society. Turn over history of Islam, the time of Holy Prophet, the time of Khulfa and the time of Muslim States, you will learn that what Quaid-Azam Said is nothing but extract from Islam itself.

well well this is why the world is afraid of Islam.

Prophet mohammad must be crying in heaven or wherever he is on hearing these words. This is not the islam he brought to this world.

I personally feel most of the pakistanis are secular and for that matter Islam is secular by nature.

Follow true islam and secularism will follow.

What is secularism? that u must respect evry individual and its beleif.

i am sure islam preaches this. every religion preaches this.

U have the added benefit that everything in Islam is written and defined.Go read ur religion and become a true muslim then we will see what u have to say.

I am not a muslim. I am a jain.

basically pakistanis dont have any support for secularism. turkey is the best friend of pakistan but yet pakistanis dont accept turkish secularism. basically after musharraf brought media and other things, like war on terror, hatred on madrassas and used terms like islamic fundamentalism , extremism, to ban quranic chapters in islamiat(islamic teaching course) bombed lal masjid, brought hudood laws under scrutiny, started chanting rights of women... one who is living out of pakistan would get idea, how pakistanis have changed now, but believe me not only pakistan but quaid e azam muhammad ali jinnah (who is frequently labeled a staunch secularist and like how he praised attaturk) and his fellow, liaquat ali khan the first prime minister of pakistan, always supported an islamic system to govern pakistan. quaid didnt support any ism be it secularism, socialism, or even national socialism.

you should study about the pakistan movement and the muslims from all over india who supported this movement had this cause in their mind.

very few pakistanis usually residing abroad want pakistan to be deliberately involved in identity complex. i dunno why but english news papers like the dawn and the news editorial section talks frequently about this and no urdu newspaper does. these are the people who confuse pakistanis and paly propaganda for whom i dunno. quaid e azam died soon, other wise these people had been silenced for ever.
