Good News for the Mashaak indeed but why make such a major investment for the antiquated Mirages that are beyond their scrap life right now?

When you rebuild a aircraft the most expensive portion is the man hours but since PAF has the staff already on payroll its not a issue. Secondly as OEM no longer makes components for these and there is extensive infrastructure, modernizing them might be more viable and cheaper than simple rebuilds. PAF will likely keep a few of these as specialist strike platforms for a while but they are no longer the work horses they were once with the PAF.

Hi, has Pak engineers ever tried heat treatment to renew the aluminum frames? Airframe fatigue can be significantly reduced by this method. There are research papers on this.

They are doing something like this for engine components so no reason not to have similar process for the airframe.

I just watched the video and it says nothing about heat treatment. Mentions every other step. Simply removes bad parts and replaces them. Cleans them and puts them back. No heat treatment! Metallurgy doesn't seem to be Pakistan's strong suit despite AQ Khan being a metallurgist.

That is related but not traditional heat treatment per se.

Here is an example of a typical aluminum heat treatment:
T-5: 540 C, 1 hr. 5 day ageing period
T-6: T-5 + 20 hr ageing + 180 C @ 4 hr + 5 day ageing

A treatment like this would reverse metal fatigue at the molecular level and be 33% effective. More refined methods could theoretically push that number much higher.

Pak does not have an internationally recognized university that offers a specialization in Metallurgy. Where is AQ Khan? He would be the ideal person to start a university focusing on Metallurgy and related sciences. This is the need of the hour for Pakistan, nothing more important than this.

Sir that's the problem in country no proper long term planning, AQ Khan got education from abroad, he had the passion to serve Pakistan came back, in the end got entangled in controversies, later on remained almost in captivity. There are so many others like Dr Umer Saif former PITB chairman, Dr Atta-ur-Rahman etc who were treated badly only due to dirty politics. One may hope that if Govt advertises positions to establish Metallurgy Deptt in any reputed Uni with sufficient perks the overseas Pakistanis may come along with even foreigners.
