Sun Yang Defends 400m Freestyle Worlds Title

Sun Yang added another medal this time silver, in the men's 200m freestyle. :yahoo:
Hopefully he'll get the gold in the Rio Olympics. :bounce:

James Guy beat Sun Yang on the touch. Sun was leading with like 10 meters to go but James Guy was closing the gap.

Holy crap! Look at that medal table! I didn't know China already became so dominant in swimming. I thought it was still mostly gymnastics:P Good for you guys. Keep using that water cube to produce the best swimmers. Damn, what a difference a few years make.

What you won't see on the medal table is that China now has many swimmers making finals on a consistent basis in both men's and women's events.
This shows the depth in Chinese swimming.

Before it was only a couple of good swimmers getting all the medals and China was dependent on them. But now China has a lot of good young swimmers making finals. They might not have gotten a medal but they will learn from this experience and it also shows China is progressing in swimming.

Making finals is not easy considering the depth in world swimming.

. .
In the future, we will only see China dominate swimming more, because East Asians have the right body structure for swimming: long torso, short limbs. And China is the main country that can sink money in to develop young athletes.

West dominated sports like swimming because it's a sport where you need facilities which only the rich countries can afford.

Now that China has the money, you will see China build more swimming facilities and get more medals.

Absolutely correct. The reason why west Africans dominate athletics is not only because they have the right body structure and muscle fibres, but also because there is a low infrastructure barrier in athletics. You can run anywhere, in the Ethiopian highlands or on Jamaican beaches.

Western countries that have relied on their infrastructural advantage will find it rapidly eroding. Same thing is happening in golf. It used to be 'rich white man' sport, but now it's being dominated by young Asian prodigies.

The nearest swimming pool to my home is the one in a middle school, too crowded. We still need more infra on sports!

Sun Yang defended his 800m title, that is his second gold medal.
King of Freestyle continues his domination! :yahoo::china:
I can't wait for the 1500m final.
